Bought a 12 month data only sim for my brand new iPad Air at Currys shop 4 weeks ago, went abroad (Greece) no roaming. Came home, went to Curry’s shop who contacted ID but no resolution. Problem is can’t get a PIN code to activate ID app because iPad won't receive texts. Been to Apple shop and they say that they don't support ID mobile. I find on this website a statement by ID employee (Tyler) who states that ID “ don’t support cellular functions with our SIM cards in any devices outside our approved handset

devices”.

I have tried to cancel my contract but told not possible. An obvious case of mis-selling. Next stop Trading Standards. Unless someone can provide a solution quickly.

Put the SIM in a mobile handset to get the PIN

1. iD Mobile doesn’t offer data only plans.

2. An iPad cannot receive or send SMS messages unless paired with an iPhone.

The issue here isn’t iD Mobile, it’s a limitation of your device (iPad). Pop the SIM in a phone and you will receive the code!

Well, I was sold it as data only. In any case why sell something you don’t support. I’m afraid the issue is ID mobile and I will be taking it further. The fact I am unable to contact anyone in the organisation without a pin (which I can’t get) tells its own customer service story. And don’t tell me it’s my fault when.the eSIM was supplied for my iPad.

Your customer service pin is viewable by simply logging in to your online account and navigating to:

Plan > Customer service PIN

No text message is required unless you’re setting up your online account for the first time.

FYI - I do not work for iD Mobile, I’m a customer just like you. I’m simply providing you with facts!

Simply logging in to my online account is not possible without a pin! That’s the problem . And it would be my first time( if I could do it). The whole system is not fit for purpose.

Get a replacement physical SIM card from a Curry’s store and activate it. Put that in a mobile handset. Register for the app. Then request a replacement eSIM and install on iPad again.

That’s how it works! No different to EE, Vodafone, O2, etc. If the networks didn’t do this, any of their customers could register your number, make changes to your plan, view your bills , hijack your number, etc.

You’ve been told what it is you need to do. You only need to do this only once! Do it, don’t do it— that’s up to you.

Tell me how I port an eSIM from an iPad to a iPhone and back with no involvement from the phone company?

I went into a branch of Currys and asked for a data only eSIM for an iPad. I shouldn’t be having all this hassle.

To further inform you of the hassle I’ve had, I spent 30 mins in my local Curry’s while a very helpful man spoke to ID mobile help desk . Not allowed to speak myself. They couldn’t suggest how to fix it. Said go to Apple, which I did. Apple said “don’t support ID mobile” . If ID mobile can’t fix the problem who can?

You need to chat with a live chat agent and ask them to send you a new QR code. Install it on your iPhone, and then proceed to set up your online account. You will receive an OTP as part of that setup process and once done, log in to your online account and navigate to:

Plan > Your SIM/eSIM > Request a replacement SIM or eSIM

You will once again receive a new QR code, install that on your iPad. Done!

FYI - If you think iD Mobile is a nightmare, Vodafone requires a OTP every time you log in!

Thank you. I’ll give that a try. Why didn’t they tell me that this morning when I was in Currys

One question. How do I chat to a live chat agent when I can’t log in to the app?

Using the iD online Live Chat service, to speak to a customer adviser @gregorp

The advisers work until 8pm on weekdays and 6pm on weekends - just tell the 24/7 chatbot you’d like to “talk to a person”.

You don’t need to log in to start a chat! You can speak to a live chat agent by clicking on the link below:

https://www.idmobile.co.uk/live-chat

(Live Chat team are available 9am - 8pm Monday to Friday, and 9am - 6pm Saturday, Sunday, and Bank Holidays.)

Just tell the useless AI bot that you want to speak to an agent, and you will be connected to a real person.

Thanks

Hi @gregorp  just catching up with this thread. Did you manage to get sorted, or do you still require assistance?

Hi, thanks for asking. Not yet, been a bit busy today and need some quiet time to work through it. Tomorrow I hope.

No problem at all @gregorp

Please do keep us updated.
