An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital version of the traditional plastic SIM card. Instead of inserting a physical card into your device, the SIM technology is built right into your phone.
It works just like a standard SIM, allowing you to make calls, send texts, and use data, but you activate it by downloading a profile via a QR code or app.
What are the benefits of an eSIM?
- It’s instant: You don't need to wait for the postman. You can buy a plan and get connected within minutes.
- Dual SIM capability: You can have two active numbers on one phone (e.g., a work number and a personal number) and switch between them easily.
- Greater security: Since there is no physical card to remove, it is harder for thieves to hide the location of a stolen phone.
- Eco-friendly: No plastic card means less waste for the environment.
Is my phone compatible?
Most newer flagship phones support eSIM, but you can check your specific device in seconds:
- Open your phone keypad.
- Dial *#06#.
- If an EID number appears in the pop-up list, your device is eSIM compatible.
FAQs.
How do I activate my eSIM?
We will send you an email containing a QR code. Make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi, then scan the QR code using your phone's camera or settings menu to download your profile.

Can I keep my number when switching to an eSIM?
Yes. You can port your number to iD Mobile using a PAC code just like you would with a physical SIM.
If you are switching from another network where you already used an eSIM, we recommend waiting until your iD Mobile eSIM is active and your number has transferred before deleting your old eSIM profile.
How do I get a replacement eSIM?
If you have deleted your eSIM by mistake or moved to a new phone, you can request a replacement instantly:
- Log in to the iD Mobile app or my.idmobile.co.uk.
- Go to Plan.
- Select SIM & Phone Management.
- Select Request a replacement SIM or eSIM.
Can I switch between physical SIM and eSIM?
Yes, you can swap between formats at any time. You just need to request a replacement SIM (either physical or eSIM) via the iD Mobile app or my.idmobile.co.uk using the steps above.
What happens to my plan if I delete the eSIM from my settings?
Deleting the eSIM profile from your phone does NOT cancel your contract. It simply removes your access to the network. You will need to request a replacement eSIM to get reconnected. If you actually want to cancel your plan, you must contact us or do so via the app.
Can I use my eSIM abroad?
Yes. Your eSIM works exactly the same as a physical SIM when roaming. You can use it in our inclusive roaming destinations or purchase Roam Beyond add-ons.
