A personal hotspot allows you to share your iD Mobile data connection with other devices, such as laptops, tablets, or other smartphones.

What is hotspotting or tethering?

While often used interchangeably, there is a slight difference between the two terms:

  • Hotspotting: Turns your phone into a wireless router, allowing other devices to connect to it via Wi-Fi.
  • Tethering: Connects your phone to another device via a USB cable or Bluetooth to share the internet connection.

In both cases, any internet usage on the connected devices will be deducted from your monthly data allowance.

Can you create a personal hotspot on a Pay Monthly Plan?

Yes. All iD Mobile Pay Monthly plans allow you to create a personal hotspot at no extra cost.

If you are on an Unlimited Data plan, you can hotspot as much as you like. However, if you have a capped data allowance (e.g., 10GB or 100GB), you should monitor your usage carefully.

Connecting a laptop or tablet often consumes data much faster than a mobile phone, as these devices may download large software updates or load desktop versions of websites in the background.

Can you create a personal hotspot on Pay as you Go?

Yes. You can use your Pay as you Go credit or bundle allowance to create a hotspot. Just like Pay Monthly plans, the data used by connected devices is deducted from your balance.

We highly recommend monitoring your remaining data when tethering. You can check your balance anytime via the iD Mobile app or at my.idmobile.co.uk.
