Can anyone kindly detail how to access my CIX mail and send it from my iPhone? I've tried copying the Thunderbird settings but get an 'account error'

You should be able to access your email service through the ordinary email app installed onto the phone, although as it's not a mainstream email provider (i.e Hotmail, Gmail) you will need to set up the email account manually.
I've found the below settings from the CIX website which should work:
Incoming mail server: mail.cix.co.uk
Incoming Ports: POP3 (port 110) / IMAP (port 143)
Outgoing mail server: mail.cix.co.uk
Outgoing Ports: SMTP (port 25) / Alternative SMTP (port 587 - recommended)
Outgoing Authentication: POP before SMTP / SMTP Auth (recommended)
Outgoing Authentication Method: Password, Plain or Normal Password *1
Username: (Your Nickname may differ from your Internet Hostname)
Password: (your mail password may differ from your CIX Conferencing password)
Connection Encryption: STARTTLS
If you need any further support, contacting CIX directly will be your best bet.
