I generally contact people with texts via whatsapp.
However ive sent a couple of texts via the messages.app on my iPhone which the recipient has received however when i receive a message back its just an empty message.
Have tried re-setting the iMessage toggle in Settings → Messages on and off but made no difference, and also tried restarting the phone.
Am running the latest IOS software on my iPhone 7.
Any ideas??

Forgot to say these messages are normal text messages and not iMessages as my contacts are using android devices.

I’ve not come across an issue like this before, and it sounds as though something within the phone might be stopping the text messages from being visible. I’ve done some research, and one user mentioned turning off iCloud Messages from within the settings and then turning off iMessage and then back on again.
Can you give this a go to see if it helps? The next step would be to refresh the network settings by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
