New PAYG SIM - How quickly do i need to activate ?

I need a SIM for back up purposes  - additional data allowance.
So, if I get a new SIM delivered tomorrow, how long can I ‘sit on it’ before activating? Hence, not paying for something I’m not using.
TIA.

Okay @Nic Rawlings, iD supply activated SIM cards for any new connection to their network.

At iD Mobile they will disconnect a PAYG SIM from their network after ~4-months of no chargeable service (see sections 7 and 12 of the PAYG terms).

Thanks @andewhite for your swift reply.
So, to be clear : IDmobile PAYG sims arrive active? Therefore, if I leave the SIM in the delivery envelope, I will be wasting ( say £9 for 36GB ) the original outlay?
if then, after 60 days, I choose to use the SIM, I can pop in the phone, add credit and off to go ?
thanks for your help …

Hi @Nic Rawlings

iD Mobile SIM cards ordered online will be activated upon dispatch.

If you’d like to ‘control’ the date a plan/SIM is active from, you’ll be able to purchase in a store and it’d be active from that date.

Thanks, @Tom for confirming. It’s not the solution I was after, unfortunately. I wanted full control, online.
cheers.
