2 Accounts, want to cancel 1, told i will lose number

Hi All,

I have 2 contracts with ID Mobile one which expires in August this year and another I took out in February this year. I did this as I smashed my phone but could afford to pay the upgrade fee all in one go. I transferred my number to the new contract in March.

I've asked to cancel my contract but been told my old account is linked to my old number which I've since transferred and been given the 30 day warning.

I just want to cancel my old contract and keep my new one with transferred number. Can anyone help?

+I've contacted the chat bot and saved the log to share if easier.

If you cancel your ‘new’ iD 24-month minimum term phone contract, which began February 2025, you’ll have to pay an early termination fee, @Jaymiecroucher.

If you cancel your ‘old’ iD 24-month minimum term phone contract, when its minimum term finishes in August 2025, the early termination fee would probably be very small or £0 - depending on exactly when the minimum term ends.

Which iD contract has the number you want to keep, @Jaymiecroucher?

Thanks Ande, I have started the cancellation and told there's nothing to pay for the old one.

The number I want to keep is for the latest contract but it's still associated with my old account even though I've transferred.

Okay, thanks @Jaymiecroucher

Unfortunately, you can’t transfer a mobile number from one iD contract to another iD contract.

  • Ask iD Mobile for a PAC for the ‘old’ account - before they have closed the ‘old’ account.
  • Use the PAC to transfer the number you want to keep over to a PAYG service provider like ASDA Mobile, giffgaff, LEBARA, etcetera.
  • Once the number you want to keep works properly with your PAYG provider, ask them for a PAC.
  • Give the PAC to iD to use with your ‘new’ account.

It’s a faff and will take several days (at least) to complete, but you should end up with the number you want linked to your ‘new’ iD account.
