I’ve just ordered a new phone on a new contract with ID mobile. Is a process of switching to my old number, the same as if I was coming from another network?

No, you cannot move your old iD Mobile number over to your new iD Mobile account.
You have to options to choose from…
- Cancel the new line using the cooling off period and upgrade your existing line.
- Port out your old number to another network and then port it back to iD Mobile.

Would option 2 just be a case of buying a cheap pay as you go sim, moving the number to that and then moving it to my new ID sim?

You can purchase a cheap Pay As You Go with the other network, that’d be completely fine.
