Please await better responses from those that know how iD do things.

But I’d have to say you’d firstly need to pay off the old phone and with 92 days left that might be pricey. If that’s the case you’d be paying and keeping a broken phone.

If you have home contents insurance or any ‘free’ insurance with your bank account, this might work out to be a cheaper way. But again that depends on what excess you’d need to pay upfront first. The good outcome using this method is any monies you pay means you could likely get a brand new (or a fully refurbished one at least) phone. Then you either continue to use your phone for several more years. And in 92 days you’d need to renew your contract to a SIM only deal, saving you in the long run.

Another option would be to seek a local phone repairer, though care should be taken as some don’t do that good a job in my experience.

I totally understand.

You could try iD’s live chat:

https://www.idmobile.co.uk/live-chat

Please note their opening times:

9am - 8pm Monday to Friday,  and 9am - 6pm Saturday, Sunday, and Bank Holidays.

Hoping they can advise or better still arrange a new phone - at least with the phone staying in your possession you should hopefully be able to copy the contents over to a new phone.

Hi @Clare Croft

Unfortunately as suggested above, paying early would not move a contract’s upgrade/end term date, sorry about this.

If you really need a device before your contracted term ends or before your upgrade comes up, it may be worth purchasing a SIM free device and once the contracted term has ended, upgrading to a SIM only plan.

We sell SIM free devices on our site or for more payment options and plans, Currys may be worth a visit.

Thanks for clarifying that Tom👍

I have to be honest, you could pay the phone off early with a certain supermarket SIM.

And once the phone was paid off the ongoing monthly price automagically reverted to the SIM only price - I’ve noted iD don’t do either this way.

@Clare Croft what about a secondhand phone from a shop in your town? That way it should work out cheaper than buying another new one from iD (and whilst still paying for your broken one) and if you bought the same brand transferring the content (example - on Samsung using smart switch) should be easy enough to do.
