Hi - is there any  reason why a message sent in WhatsApp should incur a text message charge?

Hi there @Matt A.

Technically speaking, the ONLY way to my knowledge that anything in WhatsApp could technically carry a charge would be if you are using WhatsApp on mobile data AND you have already ran out of monthly data for the month so further internet use is now costing you.

WhatsApp uses mobile data.  If you look at your bill, you’ll be able to locate the date/ time and number for who you texted and potentially pair that up with your text message history in your phone to see what it is you sent.

The most likely scenario here would be that you’ve sent a Multimedia Messages (MMS).  More on MMS can be found here: https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/mms-charges
Let us know though if you need further assistance understanding any charges on your bill.
