ending a contract but no longer have sim card

I am currently paying a monthly contract for my son but he hasn’t used this number for over a year now as he has another contract.  I can’t find the SIM card therefore can’t accept messages on that number when trying to cancel.  How can I buy out of this contract? It is due to finish in June so only approx.£55 left to pay.
