New phone, new sim, want to keep old number

I am currently on a monthly ID contract.  I have purchased a new phone and a 24 month contract also with ID.  I need to keep the old number which I have had for many years, and which I use for work.  Reading the forums you are suggesting this is not possible?  Please tell me otherwise otherwise I am stuffed.

Okay @Emma Atkinson Taylor, you can keep your old number, but you’ll need to port it away from iD to another provider, then port it back to your new iD contract.

It’s a bit of a hassle, but if you want to keep the number that’s your only option.

Ask iD for a PAC for the number you want to keep.

Anyway, good luck.

Yes @Emma Atkinson Taylor, unfortunately none of the UK mobile service providers allow you to move a number internally, from one plan to another plan.

A number port out, then port back is the long-winded work-around.

But at least there’s a way of keeping the number you want, and you’ve also got the handset you wanted.

Happy days!
