Question

I've reported my phone as lost, will the correct phone be blocked as I've recently upgraded but not used the new phone?

Evening all,

just reported my phone lost using the app, it’s blocked the SIM card & phone so no one can use it. My main question is this, I recently upgraded the phone a week or so ago, I’ve still not taken the new one out of the box yet. Will id block the old phone as the new one isn’t registered/used? If so I’ll just need a new SIM card won’t I?

thanks in advance, this is the first phone I’ve lost so I’m not that clued up on everything.

Okay @simonberg81, not an iD employee, but I’d guess the iD SIM card in the lost phone enables it to be identified. Thus the SIM and IMEI of the lost device can be blocked by iD, I’d speculate.

I suggest getting in-touch with iD customer service about your iD account etc. using:

  1. Using facebook (using Messenger)
  2. Or, on Twitter (by Direct Message - DM)
  3. Or use the online chat at https://idmobile.co.uk/live-chat (the iD agents aren’t 24/7, they work until 8pm weekdays - type “talk to a person” to avoid the bot during support hours)

Good luck @simonberg81

I was kind of thinking that myself but I’m not very tech savvy lol.

I’ll fire them a DM on Twitter tomorrow. I can’t get used to not speaking to a human over the phone though.

cheers @andewhite

Whichever phone you reported as lost/stolen will be blocked - if you told them the old one was lost/stolen then the new one will work OK. You need to contact them for a replacement SIM, once it arrives put it in your new phone and you should be up and running with it

Replacement SIM cards are not normally activated - you’ll need to activate a replacement SIM before you’re up and running with your upgrade phone @simonberg81

@andewhite: Presumably the replacement SIM will come with instructions to activate, if this is the case. Fingers crossed, I’ve never lost a phone or SIM, and not had one stolen… but I have had a faulty phone “fry” a SIM and had to go into one of the CarphoneWarehouse shops to get a replacement (before they closed all the stores)

Not sure @ChrisM - you’d hope so, but with iD Mobile you never know.

BTW, suspect you can find CPW inside Currys nowadays and online still. Anyway, you can get replacement iD SIM in Currys, but it’ll cost £5.

Hi @simonberg81

Sorry to hear you’ve lost your device and SIM, as you’ve reported it in the app what’ll happen on our side is both the SIM and the last used handset will be blocked.

You’ll be able to request a replacement SIM via the outlined instructions on the below community page if you haven’t already gotten in contact and done so!

Tom
