charges for calling abroad when they are actually in uk

I called my friend in the US from the UK only to find she was currently also in the UK. Why did I get a message from IDmobile saying I would be charged for an international call when she was in the same country? Is it based on the phone no registration rather than the actual location of the phone?

Because you called an international number, not a UK number.
Although the receiver was in the UK at the time, you called them on their US mobile number.

Hi @Nickiloz,

Welcome to the Community!

As @andewhite advised the number was still an international number.

You would be charged for calling that number even if the receiver was in the UK.
