caller ID authentication or “spoofing protection

Andrew Jurevich

Second time this month I've received a call/text about me calling random numbers.

However, I know for sure I did not make these calls.

Does ID have any phone number protection systems in place so my number cannot be stolen for fraudulent activity?

I want to enable caller ID authentication or any existing spoofing protection.

Please advise.

There is no pay to prevent anyone from using your number as their CLI. Doesn’t matter what network you’re on!

The spoofers will get bored of using your number at some point and will move onto someone else’s unfortunately.

Hi @Andrew Jurevich

Sorry to hear this, unfortunately as suggested by others above, there isn’t much that can be done to avoid this, we’d recommend the following;

Isn’t this a simple failure of the Mobile Phone Operators, that they simply can’t be bothered to ensure that numbers advertised on a call are matched to the SIM that made the call.

If they cared, they could ensure that any “Caller ID” matches the SIM that made the call.

Please explain WHY the mobile networks cannot make this happen.

Is there a petition on Ofcom that I can sign, or an Ombudsman, to stop this happening.

Hi @StuartG

In terms of a scam caller, there’s not much we can do our end in terms of blocking or stopping these from happening. All we can do is advise to block them when you receive them, or ignore them, or hang up immediately when you recognise one and don’t give any details to them.

However, a further step you can take would be to report this to action fraud here:
