Delay in porting old number

Forum|alt.badge.img

I was due to be switched to ID mobile from Giffgaff by 10pm last night.  Nothing has happened and, despite several live chats during the day yesterday, I’m still waiting.  I realised that I needed an eSIM, not a physical one, after the SIM arrived but can’t do anything about requesting a QR code for that as I can’t get into the app - because I can’t confirm my membership with the one-off code texted to the phone which doesn’t yet have signal.  It’s a vicious circle which is hugely frustrating.  The most worrying thing, though, is that without a functioning mobile signal I can’t be in touch with my 91 year-old mother.  Is there any way to get to the bottom of this and get my number back?

Actually, the guy at Curry’s sorted me right out.  He liaised with ID Mobile to get me a OTP using the physical sim in his phone. They then sent me a QR code for an eSIM and I’m all done.  Phew.  I’d have really struggled otherwise.

Does your giffgaff SIM still work, @Julietadair?

If your giffgaff sim is still working, the switch hasn’t happened

I have no mobile connection whatsoever.  When I look at ‘mobile services’ on my iPhone, Giffgaff is still listed and the line is marked as turned on, with the correct number.  And also, since 10.02, the switch has allegedly been made.  About to live chat ID mobile.

How many SIM / eSIM products are in your iPhone, @Julietadair

Have you checked that the iD SIM / eSIM is the primary line for calls, SMS text messages and mobile data?

Can you still make calls / send SMS texts using the giffgaff SIM?

No, I have no connection whatsoever. ID live chat says that the number has successfully ported and has had me reset my network settings.  Still nothing.  I have a GiffGaff eSIM and I’m told I can replace that with an ID one from the app. But I can’t get into the App until I get a log in texted to me - which I can’t receive.  It’s the seventh circle of hell, basically

I’m now being told I need to put the physical sim in another phone to get an OTP which I need to get an eSIM.  This is totally different from what I was told by support yesterday. And, I have to say that with the success of their service so far I’m very loathe to put the new Sim in anyone else’s phone…

Did I read somewhere that if you take the phone to Curry’s they can help?

Unfortunately @Julietadair, support in-store at Currys may not be any better than that you’ve experienced online.

  • How many SIM / eSIM products are in your iPhone?
  • Have you checked the iD SIM / eSIM is the primary line for calls, SMS text messages and mobile data (Internet)?
  • Can you still make calls / send SMS texts using the giffgaff SIM?

Phew.  I’d have really struggled otherwise.

Good to know someone at Currys sorted the issue with your iD SIM, @Julietadair
