Fair Usage Page Is a Mess. What Does It Even Mean?

First it says: From 1 October 2024 and until further notice, all customers can use their full UK data allowance in Roam Free destinations*, at no extra cost! We’ll notify you when the promotion ends and when the 30GB Roaming data limit is reinstated. Have a great trip!

Then it says you are limited to 30GB if you purchased or upgraded after June 2023.

Then it has a clickable arrow pointing up for people who bought prior to June 2023 and a clickable arrow pointing down for people who joined after June 2023. If you click on either of the arrows nothing happens.

Then there is a list of charges for people who roam for more than 63 days in 4 months, but immediately below that is notice saying:

Our open data fair usage policy no longer applies, meaning customers who joined iD or upgraded on or before 20th June 2023 can use their full data allowance in our 50 free Roaming destinations without incurring a surcharge.

If the fair usage policy no longer applies, then surely whether you joined or upgraded before/after June 2023 is irrelevant?

If the policy no longer applies only to people who joined before June 2023 then it should say that, instead of just “Our open data fair usage policy no longer applies.”

Anyone reading the page is going to come away none the wiser.

It’s very clear that anything dated 2024 takes precedence over anything dated 2023.

From 1/10/24 until further notice, the 30GB data cap doesn’t apply. This means if you have an unlimited data plan, you can use as much data as you want while roaming. However, you can’t permanently roam abroad. If you roam abroad for more than 63 days, you’ll incur charges for any calls, texts, or data you make or use from day 64, or iD Mobile may suspend your services.

However, you can’t permanently roam abroad. I’m sorry you feel it isn’t clear, we haven’t had many other reports on confusion with this page specifically.

Generally speaking, customers who joined iD on or after 21st June 2023 can use up to 30GB data from their plan while Roaming (each month) in our 50 destinations at no extra cost, that’s the agreed and contracted part.

However as a limited time bonus, from 1 October 2024 and until further notice, all customers can use their full UK data allowance in Roam Free destinations*, at no extra cost.

And “generally speaking”, what about those who joined before 21 June 2023?

From the Fair Usage page when selecting that before 21st June 2023 option;

“Our open data fair usage policy no longer applies, meaning customers who joined iD or upgraded on or before 20th June 2023 can use their full data allowance in our 50 free Roaming destinations without incurring a surcharge.”

So if you had a 100GB plan from 12th February 2023 for example, you can use that 100GB fully in those 50 free roaming destinations.

Sooo…….
I have a 60 GB plan, pre-20 June 2023, so currently I can use that full 60 gig abroad (complete with monthly unused data rollover). If I upgrade to unlimited, I will be punished; I will have my data limited to 30 GB because I upgraded after 20 June 2023, right?

No, if you upgrade to an unlimited plan today, you’ll have unlimited data to use while roaming until iD Mobile reintroduces the 30GB roaming cap they temporarily paused on October 1st, 2024.

In the short term, it may seem like a win, but in the long run, it’s a loss. If you don’t like the new terms, simply leave. iD Mobile offers the best roaming allowances of all the UK networks imo.

Anything else you have to drive a loyal, long-established customer away from ID Mobile?

I mean, I don’t know if you are affiliated to ID Mobile in any way but you are doing nothing to enhance customer relations.
