Going to Turkey

I am travelling to Turkey for a few days later this month.

Whilst I want to use my phone for data (whatsapp, maps, instagram  etc), so I will buy an add on data pack which ID mobile offer - 5 days for £20 or something like that - however, I have no interest in using the phone for calls.   I also assume using apple pay is fine - I just pay the currency exchange rate as I use Monzo - or does Apple put in additional charges?

The questions I have are…

  • If someone calls me do I get charged - or am I only charged if I answer?
  • If I receive/send SMS messages am I charged?

I haven’t travelled for many years - last time I went abroad my Nokia 3310 was left at home 😂

Many thanks

M

Yes you need to purchase a roam beyond data add on to use data in Turkey. The add-on gets added to your monthly bill.

You are only charged for incoming calls if you answer them.

Receiving SMS messages are free.

Maybe put a cap on your bill using the app to avoid any unnecessary out of plan charges. Don’t put it to £0 tho as it may stop you roaming.
