Does it cost me to send an imessage to a uk number from overseas (Sri Lanka)? I also have a uk number. And would it cost them to send an iMessage to me?

does it matter if WiFi is used or cellular data?

That is correct @schitnavis123.

If the person is using WiFi, the same rules should apply but it would be worth them checking with their provider to be sure.

You can send an iMessage using a cellular (mobile data) or Wi-Fi network connection, @schitnavis123.

The Apple iMessage service requires an Internet connection to work - either using the data allowance of your cellular (mobile) service provider’s plan or a Wi-Fi network connection.

Hey there @schitnavis123, thank you for reaching out.

If you’re in the UK, it shouldn’t cost you to send iMessages, as these are sent via data/Wi-Fi, and not via SMS.

You will need to ensure both yours and their Wi-Fi/data can send/receive the iMessage however, otherwise it may send as a regular text, and then you’d be charged for that.

Thanks,

Tyler

Thanks all. So if I’m in Sri Lanka and use wifi to send an iMessage to a UK phone, I won’t be charged? But I will if I use cellular data? What rules applies for the person in UK sending iMessages to me?
