Roaming charge

I visited Ireland for the day and my usage went to 80% and my online bill says it will be £35 whereas in the past when roaming it has always been £10. Never had an issue in the past so why am I being charged this time for roaming when it should be free for 30 GB? Reason I switched to ID was because of the favourable roaming package.

Hey there @TomSea, thank you for reaching out.

Did you go out to sea or near the sea at all?

Thanks,

Tyler

Yes I did and it seems that was the cause.

Hi @TomSea

When you’re at sea, we recommend you don’t use your phone, and put it in flight/airplane mode until you get to shore. This is because using your phone while at sea can be very expensive.

Ferry and cruise operators often use their own phone network that’s operated via satellite. Connecting to a satellite network is much more expensive then connecting to a land operated network.
