Question

Roaming charges

Hi

I flew to Geneva and received the welcome to Switzerland text message 1717pm.  I then walked through the airtport to my bags and received another text message at 1742 to say I had used 100% of my £45 date roaming cap.  My phone was switched on but wasn’t in use between those two times.

Can someone please explain how I managed to use £45 of roaming charges on an “asleep” phone in 25 minutes please?

Many thanks, Rachel

Did you connect to the aircraft mobile network? Just cause you didn’t use the phone doesn’t mean it was still connected to a mobile network and using data in the background for updates etc

Hi @Rachel Guyat

As suggested by @MZone, your device will still use data in the background whilst it’s locked in your pocket.

To avoid or limit extra charges in non-inclusive roaming zones, we’d recommend adjusting your bill cap in the iD Mobile app.
