I have been charged £45 pounds for roaming after an afternoon spent on the north norfolk coast. Is there a way I can have this cleared from my account since I did not leave the UK.

Hi @Leop  I am sorry to hear this.

We’ll shortly send you a Private Message to your Community account, so we can discuss your issue further.

To access your messages, click your profile picture in the top right hand corner and then click ‘Private Messages’.

Alternatively, if you are currently logged in, you can use the following link: https://community.idmobile.co.uk/inbox/overview

In the mean time, I would advise to switch off roaming while you’re in the UK to avoid this happening again.

We’ll see you there.

I had exactly the same experience recently, charged £5 for rest of the world roaming while in Blakeney, North Norfolk. I got a warning text suggesting I was using chargeable services, then seconds later another to say I had used 80% of my bill cap, which I have set to £5. I then switched roaming off, and then I had no connection available. So what exactly is going on here? Blakeney is a fair sized town, so it is reasonable to expect coverage without incurring rest of the world roaming charges.

Hey there @AlanShilling, sorry to hear this. It’s likely due to connecting to the maritime/ship network, sorry about that. Would you like us to send you a PM to discuss further with you?

Thanks,

Tyler

Why can't the network allow an option to block connection to maritime/ship networks when we are not roaming or when we are near a port?

Or is this something that we need to complain to OfCom about ?

I have been hit with similar inflated charges for maritime mobile networks (apparently charging more for satellite network links which I never signed up for).

Hi there @Moto_customer, sorry to hear this. To limit this from happening, we’d always advise customers turn off Roaming when in the UK, as there’s no reason for it to be on, and to set their bill caps to £0.00 if they don’t plan on using out of contract charges. However, we understand this is frustrating and of course are happy to help when this happens. Would you like us to send you a PM?

Thanks,

Tyler

Thank you Tyler C,  unfortunately in this part of the U.K. the only signal you can get indoors in some locations are those from our neighbourring country(10 miles away as the crow flies) and that is a roaming signal, so we couldn't really switch off roaming whilst in the U.K.

Thanks again

I had the same thing happen to me recently, £20 in charges for being in Blakeney too! And I can’t get them recouped :(

Hi @Moto_customer

In your device, you’ll have the option to switch to manual network connection, as opposed to the default of automatic network connection.

With this selected, you’ll be able to choose which network you want to connect to.
