Roaming Charges Using Ship’s Wi-Fi at Sea

My wife and I are going on a cruise holiday from the UK to Madeira, Spain and the Canaries which will include a few days at sea. She will want to keep in contact with her elderly mother in the UK by way of a phone call each day. If the call is made via the ships wi-fi package when at sea will she incur roaming, or any other charges?

Hey there @DK1083, thank you for reaching out.

As it’s a phone call, you will need to check that calls are included within the Wi-Fi package, as calls tend to be used with the network opposed to the Wi-Fi. So if that’s the case and a call is made out at sea with our network, you would be charged roaming charges for connecting to the maritime network. If you use the ships Wi-Fi and use WhatsApp to call for example, you wouldn’t be charged by us.

Thanks,

Tyler

No problem at all @DK1083.

To add to this, my best advice would be to set your bill cap to £0.00. That way, you cannot be charged at all, and it’ll block the call(s) going through if they were to be charged, for your piece of mind. Then, you’ll know if they work then all is good, and if they don’t go through, they’d be chargeable.

Thanks,

Tyler
