Roaming passes

Why do you have variable roaming allowances for abroad e.g 1 day, 5 day, 10day  etc. I am going to Canada for 6 days but the only option is 5 days, but other countries have longer.

Hi  Tyler, could you advise if the issues raised by others about billing and airplane mode have been resolved?

Thanks

I did some online research into this and on Three for example (many other examples for other operators too) the issue was for iPhone users. I believe that even if you switch data roaming off there is a setting on the device called WiFi assist. This means your phone will use mobile data if you have poor WiFi speed. Even though data roaming is switched off having WiFi assist toggled on bypasses this feature. Hence people were getting charged the £2 a day roaming charge. This is one of the many reasons I moved to iD as it incudes some free roaming. Setting your spend cap to £0 will also stop you from incurring any out of contract charges.

My recent personal experience of Roam Beyond was shocking, i would not recommend it. I paid to roam in Turkey for 5 days, it only worked for 2 days, and even though I didn't make or receive calls while away, I was billed for every number that tried to call me, even while my phone was on airplane mode during the flight to Turkey. I  was told by ID mobile that because the calls "went through" it means they were received. I suggest you buy a Sim card in Canada, it will end up much cheaper and much more convenient. I have spent hours trying to sort my bill since I returned from holiday.

That's shocking. I had no issue when I was with EE and it worked perfectly. Their contracts just cost a lot more for the possibility that I might need to travel to Canada in a 2 year period

I and many Three customers were also billed the £2 a day roaming charge even though mobile data was switched off. When I got my bill it showed the tiniest amount of data been used on certain days which triggered the £2 a day roaming charge. As iD uses Three as a network partner the billing errors are most likely down to Three passing duff information to iD. Took me ages and a lot of effort to get a refund off them.

Hey there @Northernjac, thank you for your question. We have only recently began to offer the roam-beyond services, so we appreciate your feedback on this.

Thanks,

Tyler
