Isn't it time id mobile came up with a reason why calls drop after 2 minutes and 5 seconds. I'm not the only person who has this problem but they blame the SIM card the phone the area never a fault in there network

Hello @Kevin Hindson

Thank you for getting in touch.

We are very sorry to hear your calls are disconnecting.

Can you please confirm the handset make/model?

Also, are texts and data working without issues?

Thanks,

Nat

Calls are very hit and miss and have to either restart phone or toggle airplane mode regularly to make calls. Phone was checked in Currys and new SIM card tried but still getting issues

Hey there @Kevin Hindson, sorry to hear that.

Is this every phone call you make, cuts off at 2 minutes and 5 seconds? No matter who you call, what time you call etc?

Thanks,

Tyler

Perhaps there’s an issue with call handling/routing between the Three UK and O2 mobile networks, @Kevin Hindson

The MVNO companies Tesco Mobile & giffgaff both use the O2 network - good luck getting things sorted.

Hi @Kevin Hindson

Thank you for confirming.

Just to rule the handset out, are you able to use the SIM in another handset and make a call to a number you have the issues with?

I suspect you may still have the same issue but it would confirm the issue lies with the SIM/network.

Thanks,

Nat

Did anybody find a solution to this issue?

I have exactly the same issue which occurred when I transferred from a physical id mobile SIM card to a e-sim.

Been on live chat but they are unable to resolve the issue.

@Kevin Hindson  I had similar problem both with Virgin mobile at the time then EE and even with IDM when I joined over a years ago. There was a data error when my number was ported over which I'd informed each network at the time. I got all sorts of replies like it's my device, sim card communication tower etc etc. I had the use of 10 devices mainly Android and a few iPhone to test said problem. In the end I told the call handers that I know what I'm talking about as I work in this industry my tickets each time went to Technical support and after investigating the problem it was data error on the porting of my number. I'm not saying this  could be your problem but not everyone working in the industry has the IT or Telecom engineering knowledge to pin point network problems am afraid. Even a bad batch of sim card could be blamed for a few problems.

What phone do you have?

My wife and myself are using a Google pixel and have exactly the same issue.

Same thing was reported and discussed by SMARTY users.

The issue seems to be that on 4G calls (and I think WiFi calls) the network requires the handset to periodically send in a keep-alive message during the call, to let the network know that the call is still active. And some Android handsets send the keep-alive signal in a format the network equipment doesn't recognise.

So I'm guessing Three's/iD Mobile’s/Smarty's network tells the handset to send the keep-alive message every 2 minutes. Your handsets are probably doing this, but in a format the network doesn't recognise. So after waiting a few seconds' grace period, the network decides it hasn't received a valid keep-alive message, so the call must be over.

Leaving IDmobile and going to try lebara as my sister is on it with no problems. I can't put up with this diabolical service. Can only make calls 50% of the time and when I can I get cut off after 2 minutes 5 seconds.

Put my SIM into my old phone and works fine so IDmobile do not support Motorola G54 5G phones and probably a lot of other phones by the sounds of it. I now have a lebara SIM in my Motorola G54 5G and working without any issues so it is IDmobile network issues for definite

Why isn’t it Motorola’s fault?

iD Mobile provide a list of approved handsets as do other networks:

https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/approved-handsets

The trouble with Android phones is that they come with a variety of customised firmware revisions that only work on certain networks.

That's why it's not Motorola's fault

Who supplied you with the device? What firmware revision is it running?

There are a couple of disclaimers on the supported device list:

All handsets provided with an iD plan go through extensive testing in order to ensure the handset is compatible with our network.

You can visit our SIM Free Phones page, to view a range of SIM free iD compatible devices.

Providing you purchased a device SIM free or from iD Mobile, and it’s on the list, it should work. iD Mobile and SIM free handsets have generic UK roms installed and should work on all networks.
