Buy out contract to stay on network / early upgrade

Hi,

I'm tied into a contract with IDMobile until August 2023. The new Google Pixel Pro 7 has been released and I love the look of it. I want to get this phone now but also stay with IDMobile.

Originally I wanted to buy out my contract and then take out a new contract with IDMobile for this phone, keeping my existing number which I've had for years. IDMobile have said that I can't do that but I can leave the network and take my number with me.

It seems silly that I am trying to stay with ID, pay off my contract in full and take out a new one but I'm getting a straight no.

Has anyone any advice please? I wondered if I could switch to a pay as you go briefly and then switch back to pay monthly but not sure if that's allowed either?

Thanks,

Ali

You can’t transfer a mobile number from one iD contract to another - none of the UK mobile networks allow internal number porting.

So @Ali85, either wait until for can upgrade in 2023, or pay the early cancellation fee and port your number elsewhere, then rejoin iD by pre-ordering a Pixel 7.

Good luck @Ali85

Thank you @andewhite for the advice. So you mean to port my number to a PAYG account on another network and then port back with new iD contract? If so, do you know if there are minimum waiting periods when a network will allow you to leave from the time you join? Thanks again - appreciate the help.

Why don't you just buy the pixel 7 outright? You can buy one on Amazon for £49 a month for 12 months (interest free). Got to be better than committing to a whole new 24 month contract and paying almost a year's worth of line rental in early termination fees.

Yes, that’s correct @Ali85
I don’t think there’s a minimum period between leaving and rejoining.

As @WelshPaul suggests, it might be better to find an interest free purchase option for a SIM free phone elsewhere. You’d avoid the trouble of porting out then back, and could re-sell your existing phone once you’ve got your Pixel 7.

There’s not a minimum period from past experience, but it may be best checking with the network.

Sadly we don’t offer early upgrades, hence why we can’t offer this and we don’t support ports from an existing iD Plan to another.

You’re better option is as @WelshPaul  advised and buying the handset on a monthly cost and using the SIM in that device.
