So my mum is currently on an iPhone 7 with Tesco under 3G, do ID mobile still allow 3G or is my mum gonna be forced to upgrade?

The 3G switch off is a process where Three UK (and all other networks), iD Mobile's network partner, is switching off their 3G network to continue investing in rolling out 4G and 5G. This means that if you have a 3G-only phone, you will be unable to use data, make calls, or send text messages on the iD Mobile network once 3G in your area is switched off.
If you have a 4G (VoLTE) Calling phone, but 4G is disabled within your phone settings, you will still be able to send texts and use your data, but you won't be able to make calls. To continue using your services as normal, you need to ensure that your phone is compatible with 4G (VoLTE) Calling and that 4G is enabled in your phone settings.
The 3G switch off started in April 2023, and the national 3G switch off started in September across the country, phasing out its 3G network completely by the end of 2024.
The Apple iPhone 7 is compatible with 4G (VoLTE) Calling, so your mother will be able to use this on the iD network.
