AS of yesterday I lost my phone service and after  hours with ID MOBile my problem has been referred to the technical team to help me. Since I had the problem I started looking for possible problems and came across the fraudulent practice of hijacking telephone numbers.  This is what I believe could have happened to me, I tried to use WhatsApp and when I tried to get to my account it told me my passcode was being delivered to a device which was not the model/make I was using .The service stopped a few minutes after I got a text from IDMobile saying my number activation request is nearing completion, which I had not applied for.

Has anyone heard about this practice and what has to be done to protect oneself from the theft of your number ?

If I am  correct , all this makes me very nervous about what benefit hijacking my number is to the thief.

Any thoughts/ suggestions would be very gratefully received.

Tym
