I had my number transferred about three weeks ago to my new phone I bought from ID. All was working fine including iMessage. It has today reverted back to the number ID gave me with the phone before it changed over to my number. very confused as it was all working fine before.
i have tried turning iMessage on and off again, the phone on and off again and doing all the updates.
1) Try turning off iMessage (Settings > Messages) 2) then restart your phone (by pressing and holding the on/off button) 3) tap Settings > Phone > My Number and confirm that it is correct. 4) If it is not correct, please enter the correct number) 5) then turn iMessage back to On (Settings > Messages) 6) go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and see if the correct number is displayed under “Start new conversations from:"

I’ve just switched to ID. Got message to say number ported across today.
However, iMessage not working and failing to send texts in some instances.
Problem appears to be that iMessage says: “You can send and receive iMessages to and reply from” and then shows the ID temporary mobile number which should no longer apply as I understood my existing number had been ported. I’ve installed latest iOS update, switched off iMessage, restarted my phone and yet still showing iMessage would only work with ID’s temporary number.
How do I fix this please? Not a great introduction to ID given I’ve never experienced anything like this when changing mobile provider numerous times in the past.
Have just tried changing number as suggested by Kash above. It is showing the wrong number (i.e. it’s showing the temporary number provided by ID, not my number). Deleted the temporary number, typed in my number, tapped Save and nothing happens. It won’t save my number. Totally infuriating. This is a software issue that should be rectified at source, not through forums.
The porting can take up until 10pm tonight. So with that in mind I’d wait until you get the text from iD saying the port has completed before you try adjusting the phone.
But also after 10pm, and after the text, sometimes a simple restart of the phone can sort the number issue out anyway 🤞
Hi @Peter G, if your number is stuck on ‘verifying’ or reverts back to the previous iD number, a network reset usually fixes the issue.
If that doesn’t work, a replacement SIM can also resolve. One can be collected at any local Currys store. Alternatively, a new SIM card can be delivered to your home address.
The SIM card would purely be a replacement which is then activated with your existing mobile number.

Did you manage to get sorted with this Peter?
I’ve had the same issue, number was working but suddenly disappeared from iMessage options
I’ve followed the step by step above, but like you, the wrong number is showing and it won’t allow me to click “save” when I’ve overwritten it.
For anyone in future, got there in the end, had to reset my network settings etc. I was worried my number would somehow be lost in the process but took the plunge and it worked out. Had to do a few restarts to get the iMessage functionality back working but got there in the end
