Is it possible to sign in without the SIM active?

I have been going round in circles for hours and am hoping that I can enable my wife to sign in online to check her texts.

She ordered her IDMobile SIM last week and activated the switch, but the SIM only arrived today and EE has already closed her account (via IDMobile I assume).

So she can’t receive SMS on the old or new SIM which is really frustrating.

I have managed to unock the network from EE and have a code, but when I put the IDMobile SIM in the phone, it says the unlock code is invalid (Your phone isn’t allowed to use this SIM card). I am hoping this is just because the EE unlock hasn’t completed.

Trying to sign her into IDMobile on the browser or via the IDMobile app, it hasn’t got her phone number, but when I try to add it, it sends her a text, which of course she can’t receive!

Any tips please, because I:

  • would like to know if the reason why the SIM can’t be used is because the phone isn’t unlocked yet or another error
  • would like to be able to sign into IDMobile as she is awaiting an important text so she can pickup a parcel.

Thanks very much from a frustrated hubby!

Hi @TonyPayne  is the port due to go through today? If so, the switch will be completed by 10pm. I would suggest to reboot the handset periodically to check if its gone through.

If the handset you have is locked to EE, I am afraid that isn’t something we can assist with, and you would need to speak with EE. You could always test the SIM in another unlocked handset?

Please let us know how you get on.

Thanks Sian, I will try the SIM in my phone to see what it says.

Hopefully the unlock will go through by tonight and then I assume I need to enter the unlock code again (in my wife’s phone of course)?

Hi @TonyPayne

You should only need to enter the unlock code from EE once to unlock the device from them.

Thanks Sian and Tom for your help.

I was still boggled until about an hour ago when I managed to find a post on the EE community site where someone else had asked a similar question.

Seems the unlock code is the first 8 digits of the 16 they send you and the MCUK (?) is the last 8 digits, in case you enter the code wrong and it’s rejected.

Nowhere in the info that EE sent did it say anything about only entering the first 8 digits, but having entered those the phone unlocked, phew!!!

This was all getting too frustrating but now problem solved and I can relax...
