microphone not picking up sound

My phone plays media etc no problem, but microphone doesn't pick up sounds. This makes Gemini no use, or the recorder function. This is a fairly recent problem as it used to work fine.

never even thought of that, will try it, although I think it may have something to do with any recent upgrades.

@Bill Sturgeon So I take it before the updates /upgrades your device had been working correctly?

If you're able to make a phone and others can hear you the mic is working. The update may of changed some settings, have you tried going the settings for Gemini and to check allow microphone is enabled? At times update break a pervious working function of the device or apps.

Good advice, went to my local store (Dumfries) .  Worse than useless, the assistant merely did all the things I had already tried and eventually advised she could send it to Google for repair, which would take about a week, or send it to I.D. mobile for repair which would take about 8 weeks.

She didn’t seem to understand IT’S NOT BROKEN, since an update one of the functions, the ability of the mic to pick up sound has stopped working.  I can make and receive phone calls, my media plays fine, my audio books  play fine, it is just anything which requires the mic to pic up external sound ( Gemini, recorder, my bird identifier app ) doesn’t work.

If this is the best ID Mobile / Curry’s has to offer then perhaps it’s time to look elsewhere, as trying to get in touch with ID Mobile is IMPOSSIBLE, the worthless bot chat takes you round in circles and no resolution is achieved, even Curry’s couldn’t tell me how to contact them, other than use the previously mentioned useless chat bot.

If you’re having issues with sound due to the latest update on the phone, then this is likely something you’d need to contact the manufacturer further about and ask them the question, as these updates are obviously done by them and if the update has caused the issue, then they should hopefully be able to fix it.

 

We can fix network related issues, or faulty phone issues, but most likely the manufacturer of the phone will need to look into and diagnose your issue with it being to do with the phone update, which we have no control over.
