Number not recognised by electric gate

Linda Davis

A mobile number and sim card are set up to open the electric gate.  My phone will not open the gate - the designated number says ‘ number not recognised’ and will not open the gate.  All the other phones we use to open the gate work.  Only mine. What’s the problem ?

Hi @Linda Davis,

Welcome to the Community!

Sorry for any confusion caused is the SIM inserted into a handset or a device for the gate?

We can’t guarantee that the SIM will work in a device other than a phone.

No, sorry, you dont understand.  The electric gate has its own sim card.  To open the gate you have to ring that sim’s number.  Everyone who has the number of the gate - can openthe gate.  My phone rings the gate and it doesnt open ??  Why

Hi @Linda Davis

So the ‘gate SIM’ doesn’t recognise your number?

You might need to tweak your phone or at least check it’s set correctly. Please have a read of this:

The above link gives info for iPhone, Samsung and most other Android based phones, using the various drop down menus

It may be a case the gate sees the other numbers in a +44 format and yours could be 0.

Hey there @Linda Davis, sorry to hear that.

When you go into phone settings, is your correct number showing?

If not, you will need to change it:

Thanks,

(I think my previous reply is stuck for review from around 20hrs ago)

@Linda Davis I’m assuming you have access to the gates device/interface/SIM?

If you call from your phone whilst looking at the gates interface, does your number show as +447xxxxxxxxx or 07xxxxxxxxx?

Also if you have Wi-Fi calling enabled (and are in range of a Wi-Fi network), have you tried turning this off and then trying to open the gate?

Have you possibly inadvertently blocked your outgoing number?

Sorry for all the questions

This sounds like promising information.

1, Number shows 07 when calling gate.

  1.   will try turning off the wifi enabled.   This sounds like it could work !!
  2. Have not inadvertently blocked number.

Thanks Linda

Thanks for the prompt reply @Linda Davis

So I’d also check to see if any other person with access to the gate tries calling, how is their number presented? (07 or +447)

Wi-Fi calling routes differently to conventional calls - google if you really want to spend many hours reading!

And okay, we can rule out the gate seeing yours as a private number/call

Doh!

If someone doesn’t mind, try your SIM card in their phone* and then see if it opens the gate - this should rule out the card.

*assuming their phone is unlocked.

Should that still not work try their SIM card in your phone and again see if it opens.

Just a thought….

Have you tried removing your number from the gates interface/menu and then re-adding it?

(this might resolve the number not being recognised by the gate)

Hi @Linda Davis

Is the iD Mobile SIM card in the phone or the gate?

If the iD Mobile SIM is in your phone, are other calls working okay?

Are you able to try the iD Mobile SIM card in another device to test?

Tom

Hi Tom

The iD sim card is in my phone but wont activate the gate’s sim card.  Other calls from my phone working OK.  Other mobiles open the gate but not mine or one other phone I have.

I have just moved from the SW to the NW area of UK.  Both the SW phones not working with the gate ?  could it be a regional problem.

Will try iD sim card in other devices and get back to you.

TOM - YOU GENIUS.   We have swopped sim cards and found that the Vodafone sims work and others.  The problem is with iD mobile network.   Thank you for the solution.

I intend to change my network on Monday - will go to Vodafone. At least we know that works.

Again big thanks.

Thank you Daz - this has worked. Brilliant. We tried putting my sim in another phone , called the gate and indeed the gate opened.  The problem is with iD network...will change provider on Monday.  The Vodafone network opens the gate with the designated number.  Wht a relief.  Thank you and thank you again.  Linda

Actually I think I now know what caused all of this (and it’s not your fault)

It sounds like you had an iD SIM in a previous Vodafone supplied phone.

And <clears ones throat> if your phone was purchased or obtained from a previous mobile network provider, like in your case Vodafone, then there’s a chance that your phone will not work after the big 3G switch off on the iD network or any other network NOT using  the Vodafone infrastructure

The reason for this is because your previous provider left their software update within the phone which in some cases (and even though 4G or LTE and VoLTE is available) this prevents VoLTE from working on a rival network.

So possibly in this instance - Vodafone previously supplied you your phone and then after the 3G switch off (which all of the big 4 will be doing) your phone would probably would work on any MVNO that uses the Vodafone network or indeed direct with Vodafone. It probably wouldn’t work on any other network.

Anyway, with that out the way, enjoy your new provider!!🙂

Hi @Linda Davis

Have you tried the iD Mobile SIM in another device?

What network is the SIM card inside the gate with?

Is it a standard 07 number?

Tom

Tom - yes - tried my iD Mobile sim with a vodafone mobile and it WORKED !! so the problem is with iD mobile service.  Will immediately change supplier - guessing Vodafone services will be my choice as that service definately worked.

The number for the gate is a standard 07 number - but individuals must register their number..  The gate is then programmed  to recognise the mobile number wanting to open the gate.  This is where is all fell down - after ringing the gate my phone responded ‘ number not recognised’ despite several attepmts at registering the number.  When we switched iD sim card into another phone (Vodafone service)  it opened the gate.

Thank you for your help.

Hey there @Linda Davis, thank you for confirming, and we apologise the issue was with us, but we wish you all the best if you decide to change network.

Thanks,
