Number used for spoofing calls

I keep getting calls from people saying they are returning my call. The issue is I have not been calling them. It seems my number is showing up on their caller ID. But its not me, calling. Searching on the internet it seems it is called spoofing,  I have tried reporting it to action fraud, but online there seems to be no way to report it after trying a number of options. So I have given up with that route. The other option is to contact your provider.

I can use my phone and receive calls as normal. It just seems somehow someone is masking their number on caller ID by using my number. What can I do?

Thanks for the reply, I have already taken to blocking those numbers. That do call but it's still happening different people and genuine businesses calling saying I've called them.

I've held this number for over 18 year and never had this issue prior to switching to ID mobile.

Maybe your tech team should investigate and resolve the issues. I don't believe the problem lies with us customers but internal problems with the service.

It doesn’t matter what you believe, the issue isn’t specific to the UK. It doesn’t lie with you or the network, and nobody can stop someone from using your CLI. All you need is an internationally hosted VoIP trunk and a softphone application, and you’re good to go. This problem has been going on for years!

I'm getting these spoof calls now, can anyone shed any light on what I can do to stop them happening, around 30 calls a day now. It's getting very annoying.

    Hi @Kevjones79,

Thanks for getting in touch, and we’re really sorry to hear this.

Unfortunately, spoof calls happen when scammers disguise the number they appear to be calling from, and there isn’t currently a network setting that can completely stop those calls from reaching your number.

    In the meantime, we’d recommend:

    • Blocking and reporting the numbers where possible
    • Avoiding answering unknown numbers if practical
    • Never providing personal, account, banking, or security information over unexpected calls

If the calls continue and become unmanageable, the main long-term option would be a number change.

Please note that changing your number would mean:

    • Your current mobile number would be lost
    • You would be issued a completely new number
    • The iD Mobile account and plan would remain the same

If you would like to go through with this, please let me know.

    Regards,

I've been getting call from random people saying I have called them. I have explained I never called them and someone is using my mobile number. Can the iD representative explain how this is happening to lots of iD customers and not other phone providers. Has iD got a weak firewall or data protection protocol?

I DO NOT want to change my number and there is no point telling me to block numbers as it is MY phone number that is being used to call other people not the other way round.

I will cancel my account and move to a more secure provider if this is not dealt with

    Hi @Gardener2026.

Thank you for your post. I understand how frustrating this is.

Please be reassured that your account and iD Mobile's systems are completely secure. Our firewalls and data protection protocols have not been compromised.

What you are experiencing is Caller ID Spoofing.

    • The Cause: Scammers use internet software to randomly fake the number they display. They randomly picked yours.

    • Not Just iD: This is an industry-wide issue affecting all UK networks, not just iD Mobile.

    • The Result: People are simply calling back the number they saw on their screen.

Scammers usually change numbers every few days, so this should stop on its own very soon.

Quick tips to handle this right now:

    • Change your voicemail to say your number is being spoofed by scammers.
    • Silence unknown callers in your phone settings for a few days.

If it does not stop within a week, let us know and we can change your mobile number.

    Thanks,
