Old ASUS phablet can't upgrade to G4 - new phone purchased & received!?

My beloved old ASUS phablet has started malfunctioning and not working in some areas with the change to G4.  It can’t upgrade to G4.  I have since ordered a new phone and that has arrived.  How do I transfer my phone number (with account) to this new phone?  Guidance would be much appreciated.  Diolch/Thanks

How long have you had your iD Mobile sim? They usually pop apart, reducing in size each time. The quickest method of obtaining a replacement SIM card is by popping into your local Curry’s store.

Hey there @DJ Hathaway, thank you for reaching out. Did you order a completely new phone contract with us? Or did you buy the phone from elsewhere please?

Thanks,

Tyler

This is a sim free phone purchased direct from Motorola.  It was an offer that arrived while my old phone was failing, Lancashire going G4, and, desperate, it was too good to pass up.  We have two contracts with iD Mobile, my old phone and my wife’s.  Hers hasn’t had any problems with the change over from G3 to G4.  The desperation comes as we’ve had a serious health issue drop on us and we need to be able to keep in contact with each other - back and forth between Preston and Lancaster.  While we’ve kept my contract going, my ASUS phone hasn’t been able to send or receive, has been erratic, for the last couple of months.  I’m hoping there’s some simple way to keep my phone number and just switch phones?

Take the SIM out of your old phone and then put it in your new one.

Diolch!  That was my initial suspicion, except, the old phone is likely to be one of those large older SIMs.  This new phone will undoubtedly be one of the smaller SIMs, especially as all access and ports are miniscule, likely to do with its high rating for surviving being under water.  However, I have yet to pop the SIM out of the older model to see what’s there.  Another phone we’ve had in the past was an odd combination of a large shaped holder, the shape and size of the older SIMs, which has a space for inserting a more current smaller sized SIM.  That might be the same with my failing old ASUS Zenphone?  I’ll have to check.  If SIM size proves a problem, can iD Mobile provide a new SIM appropriate to the new phone, while still being able to keep my phone number?  Not obvious, I’ll now try to figure out how to open this ASUS Zenphone…  Wish me luck?  ;-)

Et voila!  Middle-fingernail/thumbnail sized SIM & same sized memory card in two slots...

I was right, the SIM in the ASUS is too big for the Motorola.  The latter takes a Nano SIM...

Diolch/Thanks for the backup and the link.  The SIM in the ASUS is a one size SIM, slightly bigger than a nano.  Yes, I’d suspected the only likely option is a visit to a Curry’s store and a new SIM, with the hope that keeping current phone number won’t be a problem.  I’ve likely had this ASUS Zenphone over a decade.  Unlike others we know, we don’t upgrade annually.  Offline, I still have and maintain a fully functioning Windows XP PC I built many decades ago, in the last century…

Annwyl Pawb/Dear All - Diolch/Thanks for the support and guidance.  I’ve picked up a SIM at our nearest Curry’s.  Oh the ‘learning curve’ I’ve had other discoveries and surprises with this impending transition, old to new.  With my old phablet, and my wife’s phone too, the old standard of D-shaped plugs, the cables have changed, now superseded by a new standard, reversible USB-C.  And, it seems that phones no longer come with a plug access for wired headphones, and, far worse, there’s no charger included.  So, my new Android phone has arrived, and wireless buds too, but I’ve now had to compare and seek out a charger for both.  Our several older chargers are for the old D shaped plugs and haven’t the voltage or the design to handle quick charging.  I‘ve now found a charger and ordered it today.  Once that charger is at hand I’ll take this further and will share with you how that changeover goes, fingers crossed…  Wish me luck?!

Like my old XP PC, all my previous phones are still functional but, sadly, unable to handle G4.  The oldest, a Nokia, now functions as a beside alarm clock.  I so hate waste.  C’est la vie!
