Physical SIM and ESIM. Same mobile number?

I am considering buying a new smart watch. If I buy an LTE enabled watch, can I use my existing physical SIM mobile number with the watch eSIM. In other words 2 devices with the same mobile number, same plan. My phone has a physical SIM.

I have trawled the community, but I have seen conflicting information on this topic.

Currently, we do NOT support eSIM in wearables, but it is on the roadmap.

    Ok, could you possibly give me an approximate timescale? This will help to decide on which new smart watch to buy.
