RCS and porting old numbers

Just wondered if anyone has had similar problems.

Signed up for ID Mobile last week. I was assured everything would be seamless.

It seems there's a different definition of 'seamless' in ID Mobile land!

The sign up - no problem

The PAC milarkey was all done

The new sim arrived the next day and I did as instructed i. e. Take out the old sim, put it in the new one..... Nice and simple.

Now the fun starts!

Turn the phone on and I have a new number. No one is answering my calls as they don't recognise my number. I'm sending texts but they are from the new number. Friends and family have no idea what's going on. Neither have I as I'm not the one receiving the calls/texts.

ID Mobile  then tell me my switch over date is 4 days time. The old sim goes back in and I wait.

On switch over day nothing happens all day until 7pm. By now I'm messaging IDM. I'm assured everything will be wonderful once the switch is done.

7pm and we switch!

All is fine EXCEPT text messages are still showing as coming from the temporary number!

2 hours trying to find out what to do and trying umpteen times( messages, settings, turn RCS off, restart phone, then same again with the sim out..... Over and over again..... Restart instantly, wait 2 mins before restarting, wait 20 mins, wait 2 hours...... Nothing.

Find a link that recommended going to Currys and getting a new sim. It seems the problem stems from inserting the new sim before the switchover. It would have been nice to have been told that in the first place!

Into Currys this morning.... 10 mins setting up the new, new sim, then wait 30-40 mins, turn the phone off and on and finally everything works.

What a palava!

If the instructions had been correct at sign up, I wouldn't have wasted 3-4 hours faffing about.

Not overly happy with ID MOBILE at the mo. Time will tell.

It got even worse! iD mobile used PAC to put someone else's number onto my account! I have now lost my 15 year old number. I now have a rubbish temporary number. The Gold numbers offered by iD are rubbish too. I have bought a new number online at my expense and need to put it on my phone, replacing the temporary number. How do I do that? I have the number and PAC code

Well clearly that should not have happened. Did iD say how this occurred? You don’t need to answer if you don’t want to, just intrigued as to how it did.

I have now lost my 15 year old number.

That’s odd. If iD still have it in their system then I don’t understand how they could move it back to your account. Even when a number becomes ‘available’ its kept by the last provider for 30 days. After 30 days have elapsed it goes in to the ‘bowl’ of free to use by others numbers, whereby it can be given to another person.

The only thing that springs to mind is that this other persons PAC (with their number) was put on to your account and your number (via a PAC) was put on to theirs. Even if this is what happened both numbers are under the ‘ownership; of iD. So unless the other refuses I can’t see why iD can’t move yours back to you.

The Gold numbers offered by iD are rubbish too.

If you want more you’ll have to keep either rejecting their offer, but use caution as that offer might be their highest on the table, or see if they’ll cover the cost of the newly purchased number and offer a gesture of goodwill too.

I would normally suggest using their live chat, but it might be advisable to deal with one team at any one time until this is all resolved. So if you have a means of contacting them (the one in recent comms with you) I would suggest liaising with them.

But boy what a nightmare!
