Sim Card Managed Shows Unknown Number

  • Active Contributor

I switched to iDmobile several weeks ago, opting to keep my old number and even though I have rebooted the phone a number of times, plus put the sim card into both sim slots, the result is the same, meaning the phone doesn’t ring and I can’t receive calls.

My phone is a Samsung A70, so relatively old but it was working find before.

The old sim (with EE) was in sim 2, but this doesn’t work in either sim 1 or sim 2. “iD” shows up against the sim, so I assume the sim is ok and recognised, just the phone number is not linked.

I can send and receive texts, but when I send the recipient doesn’t see a phone number. I can receive texts to my number ok.

Going into the phone settings, About Phone, Status Information and SIM Card Status, this shows:

  • Service State - In Service
  • Mobile Network State - Disconnected

Hope this sheds a bit more light on the problem.

Please can you advise the best way to resolve this.

Have you tried removing the ‘old’ EE SIM from your phone and just use the iD SIM, @debnet?

Yes I removed the EE sim and replaced it with the iD sim.

I tried both sim slots but no luck.

Just came off a live chat with an agent and he is sending a replacement sim, so hopefully that is the problem 🤞🏻

As requested I am updating this having received the new sim and having activated it (I received the text to say it was active).

Unfortunately the problem still exists. The sim manager still says “unknown number” regardless of whether I use sim 1 or sim 2. I can’t dial out and nobody can call me.

Texts (SMS) work though, I can receive and also reply to them. Very frustrating!

Hey there @debnet, sorry to hear that. Is the iD Mobile SIM card set to the primary SIM please?

Have you tried a free replacement SIM with us yet?

Thanks,

Tyler

Hi Tyler,

There is only 1 SIM in the phone (even though it has 2 slots). I assume I can put it into either slot, but the result is the same.

This is a replacement SIM, after a live chat last week the technician suspected a fault on the original SIM and said to order a replacement, which arrived today.

I can send and receive texts, but if I go to Settings → SIM Card Manager, SIM shows “iD” and under “Unknown number”.

If I go to Settings → About Phone, the phone number shows “Unknown”.

The phone (Samsung A70) is set to 4G/3G/2G auto connect.

If I go to Settings → About Phone → SIM card status I have:

  • Network: iD
  • Mobile network state: Disconnected
  • Service state: In service
  • Mobile voice network type: 4G

Hoping it’s not a phone problem as the A70 is supposed to be compatible and it was working fine with EE previously. My husband has had iD for a while and his works fine., which is why I switched.

Sorry to hear that @debnet. Are you able to see if this helps at all please?

1) Open Messages, go to Settings (top right, Message Settings), open "Chat Features" or "RCS Chats", verify if this is the correct number or not.

2) If it shows the incorrect one, then head to: https://messages.google.com/disable-chat and you should be able to unregister the number. Once done, turn off the Chat Features/RCS and the phone. Wait a few minutes and turn the device back on and re-enable Chat Features/RCS it should let you re-register/update to the correct number.

Alternatively, you can turn Chat Features/RCS off and test SMS after this.

Thanks,

Tyler

I am using Google Messenger, under RCS Chats the correct number does show.

Messaging works fine, it’s just making or receiving calls that is a problem.

After a 2nd long chat with an agent today I think it’s going to be easier to go into Curry’s to try and get this resolved as we aren’t any nearer to a solution than we were last week unfortunately.

Appreciate your help.

Thanks Andy and Tyler.

Hoping we can find someone who is knowledgeable enough to help, a lot depends on who you get all too often.

I also hope they don’t try and fob me off with “you need a new phone” because this was working ok until I changed to the iD SIM and I’m not ready to switch phone just yet 🤞🏻

Well, I bit the bullet yesterday and went into Currys. A helpful technician spent almost an hour on the phone, checking the sim card, swapping his Vodaphone in (worked), swapping my iDmobile one into his phone (worked) but could not get the sim to work in my phone no matter what he tried.

So having spent more than 2 weeks trying to get this working I decided to buy a new phone and got an A36 which works fine.

I wasn’t ready to buy another one yet as my A70 was working fine, so it’s £499 I could do without spending right now, but it’s done and I have a working phone at least.

Hi @debnet  at least the issue is resolved, sometimes it is the handset I’m afraid. Had the agent not offered to book it in for repair instead, as you could have done this?

Hi Sian,

He didn’t offer to repair the handset as there didn’t appear to be anything wrong with it and I can’t manage without my phone unfortunately.

His sim worked fine in my phone and mine in his phone, so nothing to imply that the phone or sim were faulty.
