Hi @Mike Baker,
Welcome to the Community!
Unfortunately we can’t guarantee that a SIM will work in devices other than 4G handsets.
If the SIM is no longer working it’s likely that we don’t support it.
Does the car support 4G or is it 3G only?

Hi
Car supports 4G and it has worked for more than a year. Just recently stopped (2 to 3 months ago).
Any help gratefully received or I will have to get a new SIM.
Mike
Hi @Mike Baker,
You can certainly try a replacement SIM to see if its a SIM issue.
If you require a replacement SIM you can collect one from your local Curry’s store or by contacting the Live Chat Team.
You’ll need to activate the SIM via your account once you have it.

The SIM works fine when I put it in a mobile phone. I just has stopped working in the car which is strange as it worked for the first 6 months. I did get some feedback that it the cards can be enabled for certain devices and it’s possible the SIM has been disabled to work in a car.
I don’t seem to be able to get that fixed. If anyone has any ideas, let me know or it looks like I will be cancelling the card at the end of it’s 12 month contract in a few weeks.
Thanks
Mike

Duly noted you’ve mentioned the device supports 4G, but see if there’s a setting on their device where you can set it to use 4G only (or to be sure ask JLR) - I’ve helped a few others out with their mobile routers not working and by setting it to 4G only theirs all worked fine on iDM.
My gut is telling me the SIM might be dropping to 3G and that won’t work. Your phone might be clever enough (or is already set) to use 4G only.
Thank you for your reply @Mike Baker
If the SIM is working in a device, it does rule it out as being a SIM issue.
Unfortunately, with us not being able to support the SIM outside of our compatible handsets, we would be unable to troubleshoot the issue when using it in a car.

Hello I have noticed a similar problem with the SIM in my car. Up to June 2025 the id SIM seemed to be working o.k. the car has a 4G system according to what I have checked.
There is normally a symbol on the display when the connection is working, and you can check if updates to the system are available when the symbol shows/connection is active.
Recently driving there was no connection, I drove the car over the border into an EU roaming zone. As soon as I was notified by iD that I was in a free EU roaming area the connection symbol reappeared, and I was able to check for over the air software updates. I think that the car picked up a 3G network while roaming. In our area at home 3G has been turned off.
The SIM works fine in a mobile phone, but not in the car.
Or the network is blocking access to the server the car system is trying to connect to.
Any one else having problems with iD SIM cards in their car or is it only the two of us?
Hi there @Moto_customer, sorry to hear that. As we’ve previouslty advised other customers above, we don’t officially support the usage of our SIM card in devices outside of our approved handsets. Therefore, we can only simply advise that the SIM may, or may not work, but more than likely won’t work, and we can’t troubleshoot with these external devices I’m afraid.
If the SIM is working fine inside a mobile, then that would simply indicate that the issue is we don’t support the external device in your car, and that’s why it’s stopped working.
Sorry about that.
Thanks,
Tyler
