I’d pick Antalya’s old town, Kaleiçi — it feels like a secret world tucked right beside all the popular beaches. Away from the main streets, there are quiet cobblestone alleys, colourful houses, hidden courtyards, and cliffside spots overlooking the Mediterranean sea that hardly any tourists seem to know about. It’s so peaceful, full of little cafes and ancient ruins you can stumble on — it feels like stepping back in time, and it’s so easy to explore without crowds.

The best hidden gem that I've ever found was a huge secluded golden sandy beach that went on for as long as your eyes could see and it was surrounded by sheer cliffs but the water in the sea was see through and almost looked drinkable.  This was in the Greek island of Corfu and was the most beautiful experience I've ever experienced.  Absolutely amazing 🌞🏖

A secluded little beach in Cornwall, a short walk away from a busy beach. It was glorious, few people, sandy beach and turquoise water! Absolutely amazing!

Always reject the conversion at ATMs, the local rate is far better than the banks, save money!

The  Hidden Gem I found was while traveling through Italy. About an Hour’s drive north from Naples, perched on a hilltop in in the north of the Province of Caserta, is Teatro e Tempio di Pietravairano, (Theatre and Temple of Pietravairano). Here is a Roman amphitheatre, in the middle of nowhere, with a 360 degree view of the surrounding valleys and hills for miles around.

My hidden gem was an iced latte in a plastic bag at Sandagen’s (Borneo) downtown night market; it isn’t just a drink — it’s a revelation. Bold coffee, sweet milk, and mountains of ice served street‑style, drunk through a straw as you wander through the neon‑lit stalls. It was so irresistible I had two in one night and made a special trip back the next week for another. It’s the kind of unexpected treasure that turns a simple market stroll into a holiday memory. I’d go back just for the coffee (and stay for the beauty of the country and its people).

Just got back from a trip to Paris, went to go and see the famous moulin rouge red windmill. The area was so busy but we found that if you go a couple doors down from the main building there’s a staircase that travels to the rooftops, where you can stand perfectly behind the famous windmill on the top and party whilst overlooking the busy tourist filled streets below. It seemed like everyone in the bar was French/parisien and it made me feel like I’d unlocked a real local bar In the middle of a huge tourist hub.

I like to solo travel, often city breaks, and went to Edinburgh two years ago. Climbing up Arthur's Seat by myself early in the morning was a challenge but offered great views - I slipped over in a muddy spot and limped my way back down. Ended up having a late breakfast in Spoons, muddy and disheveled, but it's an experience that stuck with me. The hidden gem is making an adventure of things!

A hot stone restaurant in Austria, neat to the Zugspitze mountain. Sadly,  I think it is no longer open.

Once discovered a hidden beach while on holiday in Portugal... Literally just behind a packed public beach, it had a set of steps leading down to it and was almost empty.

Absolutely one of the best hidden gems I've encountered.

Years ago in Madrid my wife and I found an amazing underground spa with multiple different temperature pools and mint tea out of the taps on the walls. A genuine treat and slice of luck to find the place.

The best beaches are waiting to be discovered by boat and they are usually only round the corner from the main beaches.  No one around and usually the best seashells are waiting to be found.

Stockeld Park is an exceptional option for a full-day family outing. While ticket prices are on the higher side, the sheer scale of the outdoor play areas and the indoor Playhive mean you easily get a full day's worth of activity. It’s the best hidden gem not every one knows

One of the best hidden gems is the beautiful little fishing village of Crail on the east coast of Scotland. Tucked away on the road to St Andrews, it's a quaint little fishing village with friendly locals, gorgeous wee cafes and a sea breeze that will blow away any cobwebs! 😍🩵

Best hidden gem:

Reine in the Lofoten Islands, Norway — barely anyone talks about it. Red fishing cabins on stilts, fjords, mountains dropping straight into the sea, and dead silence. Hiked up to Reinebringen at sunset and had the whole view to myself. Felt like finding a secret.

The beach that turned my footprints silver
I found it by accident, chasing a wrong turn off the main road on Langkawi's northern coast. No signposts, no tour buses, just a dirt track that opened onto a stretch of shoreline unlike anything I'd seen — sand streaked black and silver, glittering where the tide pulled back. Locals call it Pantai Pasir Hitam, and unlike the manicured resorts twenty minutes south, it was empty except for a fisherman untangling his net.
I sat there for an hour, no plan, no photos to prove it — just the sound of water and the strange, mineral shimmer under my feet. It's the kind of place that reminds you why you travel: not for the landmark everyone's seen, but for the five minutes nobody warned you about.
If Langkawi's postcard beaches are the headline, this one's the footnote worth reading twice.

Best hidden gem is a small local town in the south of Tenerife; Los Abrigos. Such beautiful shops and cafes 😍 Not busy with tourists either; the locals really look after you

We were recommended to try Uncle Tans’s, and it was wonderful.

Uncle Tan Wildlife Camp is a famous, rustic jungle camp along the Kinabatangan River in Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia, where visitors go on river boat safaris and night walks to spot wild orangutans, proboscis monkeys, and crocodiles.
