A little beach cove in Rhodes that the locals knew but tourists didn't really!

Put AirTags in your suitcases. If they go missing you know exactly where they are

The best hidden gem I discovered was a tapas restaurant in Tenerife. It’s right by a casino and easily missed or passed over as one of the tourist traps. It’s tiny but serves authentic food and the best tapas I’ve ever had plus you can watch the sunset on the beach from there.

Best hidden gem I found was to hire a boat and go up and down the coast in Turkey. Everyone else paid to go on party boat or cruises and went to the same places we did. They were jealous we had our own little speed boat we could go where we wanted and snorkled and went to all the tourist hot spots and some quieter beaches. We just dropped the an anchor and went swimming.

In Caleta de Fuste in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, there is a hidden rock pool that fills with the tide. It's not easy to find but when you do it's worth the effort of scrambling down the rocks and having a swim in the crystal clear waters, and just floating around looking up at the cloud-free blue sky, or gazing out at the turquoise sea; simply stunning!

Google maps, whether it's attractions , restaurants, stopovers or campsites, reviews, walking directions with street views, opening times or not so busy times, all available offline if needed, not a hidden jem but the only app needed to find one!

Sailing off the Croatian coast we couldn’t get into HVAR so ended up in the Pakleni islands over à hill we found Zori’s overlooking an amazingly beautiful bay serving simply the best steak ironically from Wales!

Stumbling across a quiet lakeside spot while touring in our caravan. It wasn't in any guidebook, but it turned out to be the most peaceful place of the whole trip.

Rather than booking a quad bike tour with a group. Just hire ur own quads for the full day for a cheaper cost & more thrills & go wherever u want with no restrictions & limited ride time. Best thing I ever did.

My best hidden gem I found on holiday was when I was exploring the Yucatan Pennisula in Mexico and found an underground cenote that we could swim in. It was stunning and brilliant to cool off in.

When in Greece, our taxi driver (whom we had befriended) took us to this gorgeous little restaurant in the hills, and we had the best olive oil I’ve ever had in my life! Almost filled myself up on bread and oil before the main course (lamb) came out!

The best hidden gem I found on holiday was hidden in plain view. We had a fantastic week in Bournemouth and surrounding areas. Right there in Bournemouth centre a stones throw from the busy beach area was the tranquil park. Away from the hustle and bustle, the park offered a truly calming effect, long wheelchair friendly paths surrounded by crafted gardens to one side and a stream on the other. Bird song and nature truly eclipsed the expected sea and sand holiday...oh, the seagulls didnt know about the park so eating icecream in the park was a pleasure too

Best Hidden Gem?

For me has to be Porto in 2025.

My partner had a remote interview for a new job, I wanted to get her day started in the best way so decided to buy breakfast & coffee  from this beautiful bakery nearby to our B&B.

Waking up early to do so, I got ready and silently left the property whilst asleep. I am a person who likes to explore and decided to go the opposite direction and loop round to the bakery after. Instant regret... A hill so steep i felt like I had been on a gym workout.

Looking for something, anything to cut this detour short I turned a corner and after about 200 steps came across one of the most beautiful views I had ever seen.

Nobody there, no locals, no tourists, nobody.

After taking it all in, i went to the bakery, came back to my partner, waited while she had her interview and then took her there to the exact spot to share the enjoyment of a beautiful view.

Best hidden gem is getting to the pool early in the morning. Comfortably warm without crowds. Great way to start the day.

En route to Cordoba from Ronda we stopped at the Dolman of Antequra... stunning 6000 year old tombs you're able to walk right into and experience the wonder of our ancient peoples' achievements. The free museum is pitched just right, the tombs themselves awe inspiring and the vision driving away of the 'sleeping giant' makes for a memorable pitstop.

The best hidden gem discovered on holiday is paprika lays and a Fanta limon after a pool day when you get back to your hotel room to get ready before dinner. Simply can’t beat it!

According to Opinium, one third of UK holidaymakers have reported a surge in travel scams on social media this year. That means digital security is just as important as packing your passport!

A few smart phone habits can be the difference between a holiday to remember, and a fraud claim you’ll have a hard time forgetting.

The good news? You don’t need to be a tech wizard to stay protected. A little know-how and the right tools go a very long way. The even better news? We’ve done all the research for you. Plus, stick around until the end of this post for a chance to win our latest summer giveaway!

Spot fake public Wi-Fi hotspots.

Free Wi-Fi at the airport or the poolside café sounds like a dream. But it can quickly turn into a nightmare. Fraudsters routinely set up convincing spoofed networks in busy tourist spots (named things like “Airport_Free_WiFi” or “Hotel_Guest”) to trick you into connecting. Once you’re on their network, they can intercept anything you type: bank logins, passwords, and card details.

Before connecting anywhere new, always ask a member of staff for the exact network name. If it looks even slightly off, trust your gut and skip it entirely.

Secure your connection with IPVanish (iD Perks).

This is where iD Mobile has genuinely got your back. A VPN (Virtual Private Network) acts as a digital shield, encrypting your data. So even if you accidentally connect to a dodgy network, criminals can’t read what you’re sending.

Right now, there’s an exclusive iD Perk offering 83% off the IPVanish 2-Year Essential Plan — that’s unlimited simultaneous connections, so the whole family is covered in one go.

Here’s how to claim it:

  1. Open the iD Mobile app and head to the Perks section
  2. Find the IPVanish offer and tap ‘Get offer now’
  3. A unique redemption link will land straight in your inbox

Job done. You’re shielded before you’ve even left the departure lounge.

Watch out for phishing texts and booking scams.

Criminals are increasingly targeting UK tourists before they’ve even landed. You might get a message from a foreign number quoting your real hotel name and claiming your booking is about to be cancelled. Of course, the only way to stop this is to click a link immediately and enter your payment details.

Landing in an unfamiliar place, it can be convincing. It’s designed to panic you. And it absolutely works - unless you know the signs.

The golden rule here is simple: never click links in unexpected messages, however urgent they seem. If you’re genuinely worried about a booking, go directly to the official app or website and log in from there. Legitimate booking platforms will absolutely never ask you for card details over a WhatsApp message.

Outsmart pickpockets and phone thieves.

Physical theft is still one of the biggest threats in European tourist hotspots. Thieves have become especially cunning. Some use a technique called ‘shoulder surfing’  where they watch you enter your PIN before snatching your device. Once they have your phone and your PIN, your banking apps are wide open.

A few quick wins to stop them in their tracks:

  • Switch to biometric logins like Face ID or fingerprint whenever you’re out in public
  • Turn off message preview notifications on your lock screen so bank security codes stay hidden from prying eyes

If your phone is stolen, log into your iD Mobile account from another device straight away to block your SIM. This stops thieves running up fraudulent charges

Roam safely and save with iD Mobile.

Here’s the thing: your own mobile data is genuinely more secure than any public Wi-Fi network. And with iD Mobile, staying on your own trusted connection while abroad is easy on the wallet too.

iD Mobile customers save an average of £86 roaming in the EU compared to networks that charge daily roaming fees*. That’s a serious saving you can spend on something far more enjoyable - like tasting some local delicacies.

So rather than hunting down the hotel Wi-Fi password, you can stick to iD Mobile data. It keeps your personal information private and your holiday budget intact. So, you can relax and enjoy your vacation!

*Average saving of £86.76 against UK networks that charge daily for EU roaming on standard plans (EE, Vodafone, Three, Sky Mobile & Voxi) as of May 2026.

If you're going to Dorset, add Tyneham to your list. It's free to walk around but there is an honesty box for for parking. In 1943 the 225 people living there were forced to evacuate in order for the army to take it over. They were never allowed back. It doesn't get mentioned on tourist maps.
