Jacob’s ladder beach is the best hidden gem!

Without doubt though not a traditional ‘hidden gem’, a credit card sized power bank! Takes up hardly any space at all, in fact it slots easily in my phone case!! It  lets me keep my phone and iPad charged up so I can search for and discover those other ‘hidden gems’ like the secluded beach, the perfect restaurant, the chemist for the headache pills after the ‘night before’ and the chick lit audio book to enjoy while relaxing on my sunbed. This charger is a hidden gem because I didn’t know you could get them so small and convenient- it opens up a whole world of possibilities!!!

My favorite holiday discovery was totally accidental. While driving through the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus, I wandered down a quiet cobblestone alley in Lefkara and spotted an old wooden door cracked open under bright pink flowes. I peeked inside and found a hidden courtyard shaded by a massive fig tree. A local sitting there immediately smiled, waved me over, and shared a glass of cold water and sweet preserved fruit with me in the cool shade. It wasn't in any travel guide, but that spontaneous, peaceful moment became the highlight of my entire trip.

On a very hot day in France we found a beautiful clear river with weeping willows and waterlillies. It was so refreshing to go for a dip and it felt like I was in a Monet painting.

My hidden gem was in North Wales. We stumbled across a place we'd not heard of before and it's utterly beautiful. Cwm Idwal is a brilliant walk with incredible views and to top it off, it's part of the Mach loop so some hawks and an A400 Atlas flew low over us whilst we were there!

The best hidden gem I’ve ever found wasn’t in a guidebook—it was a tiny seaside village we took a wrong turn into. We spent the afternoon eating fresh seafood, swimming in an empty bay, and watching the sunset with the locals. It reminded me that the best holidays happen when you stop chasing attractions and start following curiosity

Non descript small park square in the back streets of Havana,Cuba in 1999. The atmosphere was filled with calm and the smell of fresh coffe and cigar smoke, walked into a cafe, rustic wooden chairs that didn't match, sat and drank afreshky brewed coffe and was surrounded by you people writing music on rough pieces of paper.. we named the square-  Square of Tranquility.

Our favourite hidden gem has to be a little beach we stumbled across in Wales. Tucked away from the crowds, it had crystal-clear water, beautiful scenery and, most importantly, peace and quiet.

As a family with two autistic children, busy beaches can be overwhelming—not just because of the sensory overload, but because of the fear of feeling judged. This beach gave our children the freedom to experience the joy of a beach day in their own way. They could splash in the clear water, explore, stim, laugh and just be themselves (and let’s be honest… who actually enjoys sand between their toes anyway?).

When they needed to burn off even more energy, there was a castle within walking distance to explore, making it the perfect day out from start to finish.

We loved it so much we’ve returned twice already, and every visit reminds us that sometimes the best holidays aren’t about finding the biggest attractions—they’re about finding the places where everyone feels welcome.

Love this question! One of my favorite hidden gems was a tiny seaside village I stumbled upon by accident with no crowds, just crystal-clear water and the kind of sunset that makes you forget your phone exists. It felt like discovering a secret the world hadn’t caught onto yet 🌅✨

My best hidden gem is always dine where the locals dine rather then in the tourist areas, saves money and get better fresher food

When on holiday we ask reception about local places and transport. Going where the locals go, has brought us to quite some hidden gems. One day we found a lovely little restaurant/cafe and went in to enjoy the food. Yes, the menu was in a different language, but once they heard us converse they noticed that we were “tourists” and they brought us with great pride, pristine English menus. It was very clear that they never had been used. The local food was plenty, authentic, lovely and so cheap! (compared with the tourist hotspots). It was the most amazing experience both culinary, but also people-wise. The staff was so happy and grateful to have non locals visit them. The best hidden gem is usually the one you discover rather than the one someone tells you about. It is the moment where the holiday stops being a checklist and becomes a story. 😊

A food tour through Milan's backstreets! We discovered amazing little family-run cafés and delis that we'd never have found by ourselves. It was easily the highlight of the trip.

My personal best hidden gem I have ever discovered on holiday was fossil hunting at Charmouth beach. I found gold… fools gold (Iron Pyrite) . The family had such a great time searching on the beach for different fossils and finding the tools gold was brilliant as it’s less common.

Best hidden gem was visiting local places by boat right on my own doorstep.  Some really beautiful views and bays on the North coast of the Isle of Wight.  Giving me the inspiration to visit and explore local areas in more depth rather than booking foreign holidays as a matter of habit.

Mousehole Cornwall is a lovely fishing village, with amazing light displays in its harbour on special occasions such as Christmastime. A truly wonderful location.

Always get insurance. But on top of that, make sure you have the hidden gem: the Global Health Insurance card (GHIC). It’s free and entitles you to the same healthcare costs as a local if you use public hospitals and surgeries in a host of countries.

A little fishing village of Fuseta in the Algarve.

20 minutes from Faro airport, with a lovely beach and water taxis to the islands.
