The hide @ Herons mead. In between Skegness & ingoldmells. They serve the best homemade pancakes, a fantastic outside seating area overlooking fishing lakes & well kept caravan site. The inside was spectacular, clean, great seating areas & very pleasant staff. Dog friendly & reasonably priced food. Great hidden gem found on the last day of our holiday

Always hire a car for a day or three. It’s not as scary or as expensive as you’d think. You can get something like a Panda or similar for around €100ish Euros and you’ll find places that you’d probably not find and you won’t be restricted by coach times for excursions. Only draw back is not drinking.

Plus, your hotel will even do you a packed lunch if you ask the day before.

Assos in Kefalonia. A tiny pastel-coloured harbour village with crystal-clear water and a peaceful atmosphere.

When travelling to the Amalfi coast, walk the path of the gods which takes you on a stunning coastal path that makes your holiday

Everyone associates Liverpool with the Beatles or football, but the best hidden gem I discovered there was St. James Mount and Gardens. It’s a historic, sunken garden hidden completely inside a deep stone quarry right beneath the giant Liverpool Cathedral. You step off the busy city street and walk down into this quiet, eerie oasis filled with old catacombs, overgrown greenery, and a natural freshwater spring. Standing down there looking up at the massive stone walls makes you feel like you've stumbled into a forgotten gothic fantasy world right in the middle of a modern city.

The best hidden gem on Holliday I have found is a street called “Rue de la Harpe” in Paris, the student quarter where many restaurants are as cheap at 3 courses for €12-20 with great traditional French food! Always recommend to friends travelling and they are blown away!

The best hidden gem I’ve found on holiday was a little cocktail bar in Svoronata near the beach. There was hardly anyone there but the cocktails were the best and the food was cheap but tasty.

Hidden gems are discovered when talking to the locals. Avoid the organised tours from the holidays reps, find the equivalent from local people and enjoy the more authentic experience.

If you ever get a chance to visit Germany I would recommend people to visit Burg Eltz medieval castle which is situated on a 70-meter rock above the Elzbach River in Germany if you are interested in immersing yourself in history.

My best hidden gem was a little café on Babadağ Mountain in Turkey. When the cable cars weren’t going to the top, I hitched a lift with professional paragliders. The language barrier meant they dropped me somewhere I’d never been before! My husband was wondering where on earth I was, while I was happily drinking coffee, making new friends and enjoying the view. I’d accidentally got lost — but somehow found exactly where I wanted to be

We found a waterfall and lagoon completely off the beaten track on st. Lucia. The photos (taken on real film!) still make me smile

The best hidden gem was after speaking to locals in Ireland. I was told of a beach that was quiet and away from the tourist areas, which had caves full of Victorian age graffiti carved into the walls, it was incredible!

My hidden gem from Crete: Seitan Limania beach near Chania. No signposts, no facilities — just a scramble down a narrow gorge path to this insane turquoise water. Worth the scraped knees.

The best hidden gem I've discovered is Girona. People often miss it because they go to Barcelona instead but Girona is a lovely traditional place with cobbled streets and amazing tapas and a castle wall you can walk along around the whole edge of the town.
