La Bombeta in Barcelona. A truly local restaurant, with no WiFi, and they don't speak English. Truly for the locals, serving only Catalan food. Amazing to find something so authentic in such a touristy city!

One of my favourite hidden gems was on Lake Como. We planned to visit the popular town of Varenna, but ended up hopping off the ferry at a much quieter stop instead. The boat ride across the lake, surrounded by mountains and colourful lakeside villages, became the best part of the trip. Sometimes taking the wrong stop leads to the best memories.

The UK has many hidden gems, Minehead has a lovely campsite above the town in the hills where you can see for miles and the sea is a brilliant blue. Take the coastal bus to lynton and admire the gorgeous views and enjoy a perfect scone and views at the cafe at the top of the funicular railway.

The best hidden gem I’ve ever discovered on holiday is going on a hiking tour through the jungles of tayrona national park in Colombia to end up camping on a beautiful beach with a huge wooden sun terrace hut atop a cliff in the sea. Beautiful waves and sunset, with monkeys and wildlife alive in the forest at night singing to each other

I found a brilliant hidden gem in Amsterdam, a pedalo rental for just €9, and you get three hours to cruise around the canals. Such a fun, chilled way to see the city!

Download your maps from home. So you are not accessing data hungry maps whilst away and invest in a quality multi charger that also caters for USB and type C etc.   That way you can still charge your phone and battery pack overnight rather than one or the other:)

My favourite hidden gem is a picnic table in Disney World's Animal Kingdom. Even on a busy day, it's always empty because it's off on its own path that no-one thinks to walk down! We always sit there for a peaceful drink and snack among the tropical foliage!

Travelling with 3 kids, take a pre packed snack box with sweets and crisps for the plane, travel bingo card so they can play it on the plane and the transfer. Dare I say it, take tablets on the plane, to occupy them during the flight. The last 3 holidays we have had comments on how good the kids have been on the plane.

The best hidden gem I found was in Greece, an island called Naxos. It had the best beaches and wasn't full of tourists like so many other islands in Greece!

The Last Castle restaurant set on top of a hill outside Paphos serving bbqs of chicken or pork or a mixture of both. A family run business where even the charcoal is made on site. All washed down with a carafe of local wine

Whatever it was it was never as hidden as trying to find out how to enter an ID mobile competition. Had to use Google gemini to solve the mystery

The best hidden gem I discovered was a quaint private beach in Coral Bay, Cyprus! Beautiful place to watch the sunset.

A cruise 🚢

If you’ve never cruised before, cruising is so easy with children, hop onboard in Southampton, no flying required and from parking your car to getting on board and being in holiday mode is generally an hour! Great way experience with MSC cruises.

One of the best hidden gems I discovered in Peguera was the scenic coastal walk to Cala Fornells. It's a peaceful little bay with crystal-clear water, beautiful views, and a much quieter atmosphere than the main beaches. It's the perfect spot for a relaxing swim or simply enjoying the scenery away from the crowds. I also loved stopping at one of the small seafront cafés nearby for a drink while watching the sunset. It felt like a secret corner of Mallorca that many visitors overlook.

Eat where locals eat; avoid anywhere with a huge menu full of pictures and often badly translated in multiple languages.

I had one of the best pizzas ever in a very unassuming little cafe near the main station in Rome. We were tired and just needed something quick to eat and I'm so glad we didn't have the energy to look around lots of places!

Hi, I was travelling around Pakistan when I came across a desert in the Punjab area of Pakistan. I have never seen such a beautiful the Ng in my life. Huge sand dunes, palm trees and little water oasis. Also there are many gypsie tribes in there. They are very hospitable. It is just the most wonderful thing I have ever come across in my life, just like something out of the movie's.

My daughter had an awful accident while at a waterpark in Spain and knocked her two adult teeth out. We were rushed to a clinic and luckily for us the only dentist in the island who knew how to perform the surgery of replanting the teeth back in happened to be in the clinic that day. This had to be done within the hour for it to be successful.

The clinic along with our dentist was our hidden gem that day as we would not have been able to save my daughters teeth that day if is wasn’t for him and we are forever grateful to him.
