Cant make or receive calls

I'm having problems with making/recieving calls. The mobile data and text messages are working fine. I tried restarting, network resetting which didn't work. Any suggestions what I could do?

Many thanks

Hi @Blue_panda_37  @Jaffer Khaliq

You may not be able to make/receive calls if the 3G signal has been turned off in your area. If you can still send/receive texts and use data then this is the most likely explanation.
If this is the case then you will need to set your device so that it connects to the VoLTE (LTE/4G Calling) network.

What phone do you have?
Is it on the iD Mobile Approved Handsets list?
https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/approved-handsets

Is it set up to be able to connect to the VoLTE (LTE/4G Calling) network?

Any and all information will aid someone to help you further x

Hi @Blue_panda_37,

Welcome to the Community!

Have you checked your call setting to ensure that the correct number is displayed/assigned?

Can you please test the SIM in a different handset and see if that works? Do you or the caller get any error messages?

Kash

Mate this network is atrocious.

I'm sick to the back teeth of it as whenever I'm calling the other person says I'm cutting in and out.

And customer service is appalling.

Hi @Jaffer Khaliq

What do you mean by “remi mobile”?

I’d recommend checking the following;

Hey there @Jon Dalton, sorry to hear that.

What phone do you have, and what’s your full postcode?

How long have you had issues?

Thanks,

Tyler

Hi, I have purchased a Samsung A20e as I smashed my Huawei P30 lite.

I bought it out right as I am on a sim only deal with ID.

I cannot make or receive calls when I put the sim card in to the new phone.

I have checked all the settings but it still isn't working.

Anyone have any advice?

@Donella Ogilvie-Lees Did you:

  • buy a fully unlocked phone?
  • buy it from Car Phone Warehouse?
  • buy it from Currys
  • stipulate you were using it on the iD/Three network?

Sorry for all the questions, but the answer might be in the above.

Also have a read of this if your phone was purchased for use on iD/Three

Hi Daz

I bought from amazon, it's a refurb fully unlocked phone.

I have checked this is the case and it does show other networks to choose from when taking it off auto.

Didn't stipulate I was using it for ID/three as in my naivety I assumed that as it was on the list of phones that were compatible and it was unlocked it wouldn't be an issue

Right okay @Donella Ogilvie-Lees

Go to settings about phonesoftware information → look for Service provider software version and can you give me the last few bits of that version ie xxx/xxx,xxx/xxx

Having an unlocked phone (now sadly since 3G started getting killed off) doesn’t mean it’ll work in a non 3G area. The reason appears to be related to that SPSV, hence me asking for it.

I must point out you did nothing wrong. If 3G was staying (and all providers will be switching this off) you wouldn’t have had any issue at all.

My post is being reviewed, but the information you want is just EVR.... For all of what you need

Thanks for that @Donella Ogilvie-Lees

Somebody has (on a technicality) lied to you Donella. That’s an EE supplied/provided phone and it pains me to say you’d be better off sending that one back, or liaise with the seller stating you need one from iD/Three or that they sell you a TRULY unlocked phone with no providers SPSV tied to it.

Please feel free to point the seller to this page if that’ll help you in getting either the phone swapped or a full refund. If you don’t want to do this at least tell them the Service provider software version inhibits the phones use on a non EE 3G network.

The other option would be to seek a friend or neighbour with the same model of phone and see if your SIM card works in theirs and their SIM card works in yours and consider swapping.

Daz

Thank you so much for your knowledge and expertise. I spent hours trying to get it to work.

You have been an absolute diamond and I will contact the seller and request a refund

Many thanks again!!!

Honestly @Donella Ogilvie-Lees it truly was my pleasure to help you and your response makes this all worth while. I don’t get anything out of all of this except to pass on my knowledge where and when I can.

So as one final message for you - copy this if it’ll help

This phone was purchased from yourself as an unlocked UK model. However due to my current provider,  iD Mobile, being an MVNO of the network Three, after many trials and great stress it has been proven that this phone started off on the EE UK network and as such this phone received a Service Provider Software Version of <insert the FULL software variant including the EVR bit>. This left over software prevents the functionality of VoLTE from working and this is now required on a 4G and 5G only network. Therefore I kindly request a full refund ASAP. The other alternative is to provide me with a phone of the same quality and condition as the phone provided by yourself but with a SPSV not locked to any network. Many thanks <your amazon name>.

Hope this helps and really do hope you get this sorted. I’ve already helped a few on these forums but have done many more ‘behind the scenes’ and this’ll only get much worse when the EE, Vodafone and O2 start their 3G switch off.

Daz, thank you again.

I have already had the refund accepted through amazon thankfully but have copied your response if needed.

Good to hear @Donella Ogilvie-Lees

Don’t forget to take the SIM out and then reset that phone back to factory settings before posting it back to them to remove any of your data.
