I will be going to Egypt for a couple of weeks and wanted to know if I can use my ID mobile SIM card from there without any additional cost. Many thanks in advance.

Although iD recently introduced a new roam beyond add-on, iD charge for use in Egypt.
Here’s the breakdown for Egypt:
Roaming Pay monthly Pay-as-you-go**** Calls to UK* £2.40 £2.40 Calls to Egypt* £2.40 £2.40 Calls received* £2.40 £2.40 Texts to Egypt** £0.60 £0.60 Texts to UK** £0.60 £0.60 Picture message (MMS) sent** £0.60 £0.60 Internet and Data (per MB)*** £1.50 £1.50 * Price per minute
** Please note: MMS charges vary. For further information, refer to Terms & Conditions. If you joined or upgraded on or before 20th June 2023 the MMS cost is £0.30 per message for Roaming within EU Bands 1 and 2.
*** Data is charged or deducted in one kilobyte (KB) increments and any part KB used will be rounded up to the nearest KB
**** The charges below will apply to all Pay-as-you-go customers starting from 1st October 2024. Find out more about the current charges here.

+1Yes that is pretty expensive. I might have to get a Skype subscription instead, as I do have access to free Wi-Fi.

Some are way more expensive, I forget which one but its around £9.60 per MB for just the data.
Personally, I’d either airplane/flight mode the phone as you’re leaving or as a belt and braces approach take the SIM out before you even leave the UK just in case, then latch onto the WiFi. Some apps like talking to their mothership when we don’t even realise.

+1Apparently Skype is blocked in Egypt as of 2024. The Egyptian government restricts VoIP services like Skype, WhatsApp,
+22<clears ones throat and mumbles> VPN perhaps 😉
And it’s not for me to say a VPN bypasses certain countries restrictions, and I can’t comment on if one would work over in Egypt, but I see no reason why one wouldn’t. You’d just magically have a device over there when it thinks its not….
