Motorola Edge 40 neo - is it 5G compatible

The list provided by iD includes a mobile called Motorola Edge 40 neo 5G - which does not appear to exist.

My phone is a Motorola Edge 40 neo, and I have been totally unable to find out whether or not it is compatible with 5G. There is nothing in the phone settings, and googling hasn’t provided the answer either.

I have had this phone less than a year!

Although you’ve found your answer, I don’t know why you couldn’t have found it on Motorola’s UK site

and googling hasn’t provided the answer either

Because on here - https://www.motorola.co.uk/smartphones-motorola-edge-40-neo/p?skuId=759&srsltid=AfmBOoqGQh5hZE63IR3yjb4a_w50AzssOgT-onLj2Y4b8XRFKVePopJ8 - it states the following:

Networks + Bands
  • Networks
    5G: sub-6
    4G: LTE
    3G: WCDMA
    2G: GSM
    Bands
    5G: n1/2/3/5/7/8/20/28/38/40/41/66/77/77 HPUE/78/78 HPUE
    4G LTE: b1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/18/19/20/25/26/28/32/38/38 HPUE/39/40/41/41 HPUE/42/43/48/66
    3G: B1/2/4/5/8/19
    2G: B2/3/5/8

(my bold)

However I can see how you were confused. Almost all other manufacturers have 2G/3G/4G capable phones and are sold, as an example, Joe Blogs Model A. If those other manufacturers have a 2G/3G/4G AND 5G capable phone it tends to be sold as Joe Blogs Model A 5G.

Due to the confusion/hassle you had in determining if yours was 5G or not, maybe shoot Motorola an email to ask them why they (unlike most other manufacturers) don’t name theirs with 5G in their title?

I for one would never defend iD, but their naming it the Motorola Edge 40 Neo 5G is actually correct as it is a 5G capable phone. It’s Motorola whom didn’t include 5G in their brand and model naming process.

Not being picky, just offering an unbiased opinion.

Hello @The Giise

Welcome and thanks for posting.

Motorola Edge 40 Neo does not appear on our list which does mean it is not an approved handset.

Are you currently using one of our SIM’s with the handset?

Thanks,

Nat

But Motorola Edge 40 Neo 5G appears on your list, but that phone does not apparently exist!

Are you sure that you have not added the wrong phone model to your list?!

Thank you for your reply.

My apologies, you are correct, that model does appear.

Is the handset you are using 5G enabled?

Sorry I don’t understand. My model doesn’t appear.

Do you mean that what is on your list as Motorola Edge 40 neo 5G should be just Motorola Edge 40 neo?

Thanks for your reply.

The 5G at the end is suggesting that the handset is compatible with 5G.

This means that your phone, as long as it is the same,  is on the list as an approved handset.

Thanks,

Nat, you don’t seem to understand.

The phone is called Motorola Edge 40 neo, NOT Motorola Edge 40 neo 5G.

I’m giving up with this. I will contact Motorola directly.

I am sorry for any confusion.

To clear this up, please provide a screenshot of your ‘About Phone’ settings.

Please ensure it does not include any personal information.

Don’t worry, I have contacted John Lewis who I bought the phone from.

They have confirmed that it is 5G compatible.

My “about phone” settings do not show this information, otherwise obviously I would not have needed to contact iD.

I suggest you amend the name of the phone on your website, to avoid other people having similar confusion.

Thanks.

Thank you for confirming.

With the phone being 5G, the information on the approved handsets would be correct.

We appreciate you confirming this with the retailer.

OK thanks for that! I appreciate your taking the time to post it!

As the information  wasn’t anywhere on my actual phone, it didn’t occur to me to check out its details on the Motorola website, and there was a limit to how long I was willing to spend on trying to find the information, which was why I contacted the retailer.

I was mainly confused by the 5G added to the model by iD, as I thought there must be two separate models and that mine wasn’t the 5G one !

Hi @The Giise

I’ll suggest to the team to change the name to not include 5G, however it’s just a name of a device, if there is a similar situation in which someone is unsure if a 5G model of a phone exists separately (Motorola Edge 40 Neo vs Motorola Edge 40 Neo 5G), we’d recommend using a site like GSM Arena, to search the device, if there aren’t two separate models on there, they’re probably the same model.

Unfortunately, somebody like me who just buys a new mobile for their own use every few years has probably never heard of sites like GSM Arena!

Thank you, though!
