I have just got a sim to go into a mobile modem to work from my caravan. Has anybody else done this and how can I use the app when its has to send a sms message to number but I'm not using i  a phone

iD don’t officially support their SIMs in mobile routers, but it should work fine, with some tweaking.

Firstly you’d need to pop that SIM into a phone to set up the online account and iDM app (as you know the app needs to receive a text). Then after receiving the text you should then be able to simply pop the SIM into the router. The app might not work whilst the SIM is not in the phone that has the app installed on (iD are making security improvements and it may want to ‘see’ that SIM whilst using the app - IDK) but the online account can be accessed on most devices.

Secondly, I would suggest you tweak the router to only use 4G only or if it permits 4G and 5G only. Some have found post 3G switch-off that their routers speed was dropping to unusable levels whilst it was set to Auto, nudging it to 4G or 4G and 5g appears to fix this.

Thank you for that and I was thinking that what I may need to do. I have tried the sim in the router and all seems fine so far and I got to log on and yeah the route is a 4G anyway so I don't need to change it. I suppose time will tell and I guess I have 30 day to return if no good

No problem at all, happy to help.

For the most part they will work fine. Should you ever need a replacement iD SIM in the future then this too would need to be popped into a phone first as it would need activating (new SIMs are already working by the time they’re dispatched).

And that’s what I say to other first time triers, you get 30 days (when buying direct from iDM) and as you’ve already discovered yours works so hopefully everywhere you take it it should be fine. If not pop back and we’ll go from there.
