Switching and new eSim

So, my wife switched from O2 to Id. O2 had a physical SIM. New esim from ID did not arrive  - they are saying they can only send via SMS - which does not now work. Won’t resend as email. She has to call into the provider (currys) to get a new physical sim. Now out of action for second day. Sounds very poor to me. Opinions?

Yeah, that does seem like a lot of unnecessary hassle, @oeijgosifjgoisjfg

Any idea why they cannot simply send an email/whatsapp to the phone with an esim?

Okay @oeijgosifjgoisjfg, I thought - when requesting a replacement eSIM - iD would just email QR to email address linked to the iD account.

iD probably need to carry out additional security checks though, to ensure the activation code goes to the account holder, not an imposter trying a SIM fraud.

This community article might help.

Hi - they said that was not possible. All security tests ok. That’s the thing that seems weird - why not just send another email with the esim to the account address?

Why not indeed, @oeijgosifjgoisjfg - perhaps some iD chat advisers haven’t been fully trained on issuing eSIM replacements.

Hello @oeijgosifjgoisjfg

Thank you for getting in touch.

We apologise for any delays with getting the service up and running.

When ordering an eSIM we are required to send a one time passcode to complete security. This is sent via text message and we are not able to send this via an alternative contact method.

On the occasion where this is not possible, a physical SIM would be required in order to receive the passcode.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Nat
