Switching to another ID contract

My phone got damaged in February and I had to get another phone through another contract with ID. So currently I have two ID contracts. I've been paying for two contracts. I'm due for an upgrade next month but I want to close the first account which is the one due for upgrade and continue with the second contract.

Can you please advice how to terminate (after the 24 months period which is next month) the initial contract and continue with the second contract. Thanks

Well @JosephAby, if you get a free PAYG SIM from another provider - like giffgaff - that’ll allow you to port the number you want to keep away from iD.

Thereafter, you can port the number you want to keep back to the iD contract you want to keep.

To begin the process you’ll need a PAC from iD, for the number you want to keep. When you give this PAC to another service provider, they arrange for the iD account to be closed on the day you switch.

The whole process if a faff, and will take several days, but afterwards the number you want to keep will be associated with the iD contract you’re planning to keep.

What you do depends upon whether or not you want to keep the mobile number linked with the first iD account you opened, @JosephAby

You can’t switch a number from one iD account to another iD account.

@andewhite thanks for the reply I don't think I understood the message. I'm keen to continue the new contract and close the current one without upgrading.

The number I've currently is mine, I brought it from other service provider when I moved to ID so not sure what you mean I can't take the number to the new account, can you please explain? Thanks

You said you have iD contracts, @JosephAby.

Each contract will have its own mobile number - which contract has the number you want to keep?

@andewhite  thanks as mentioned I ended up with two contracts now.

The first contract which is due to upgrade is the one that has my original number that was transferred from other service provider and it will be that number I want to keep but I need to close the contract as I have another contract with ID.

Basically when my phone damaged I got another contract to get a new phone but continued to use the old contract allowance. I've never used the new contract sim or allowance.

As I've been paying for two contracts now as I'm due for upgrade, I want to terminate the first contract but keep the second one. I couldn't see contact details of ID team to get some advice on this.

Okay @JosephAby, the iD advisers will tell that you can’t transfer a number from one iD contract to another iD contract.

You’ll need to transfer the number you want to keep to another network using a PAC, then once complete, transfer the number back to iD Mobile contract you want to keep.

The following forum article covers is topic.

Can I transfer my number from one iD account to another?

@andewhite  thanks how would I do that to transfer to another service provider? Do I need to open a third contract?

And how do I go about the two contracts I have got with ID, what's your advice on that? My thinking was to terminate the one that's due to end next month but seems to be complicated.
