I got my bills for last month. I knew I was charged for the rest of the world roaming because by accident it connected to some USA wifi (I got Welcome to USA even tho I was in the English Channel).   But looking at the bills and statement, it charges me 25 GBP for 2.6 MB data, which is ridiculously unfair!

Ferry and cruise operators often use their own satellite-operated phone network, which is significantly more expensive than connecting to a land-based network. For instance, roaming on a ferry or cruise ship costs a whopping £9.60 per megabyte, not gigabyte!

Next time, set your bill cap to zero and manually select your network instead of letting your phone automatically connect to the strongest signal.

Hi there @iobot, we hope the kind advice from @WelshPaul was able to help. We’d definitely advise to turn off roaming, put on flight mode and/or put your bill cap to £0.00 to avoid roaming charges in the future, especially when out at/near the sea.

Thanks,

Tyler
